Hi.

My washing machine is taking in cold water even though I've selected a 40 degree wash.

Is this a Korean thing or is my machine broken? As far as I know the machines at home heat the water?

I tried putting on the hot water hoping that the water the machine took in would be hot but that didn't work.

Am I missing something?

I have never seen a washing machine back home that has a heating element to heat its own water (doesnt mean they don't exist). The machines get the hot water from the household supply of hot water. You need to hook your machine up to a hot water feed.

Turn on the hot water in your apartment. My machine does cold wash if i have the hot water off, and a hot wash if I have the hot water one. Even back home machines don't heat the water, they just pull from the hot or cold water pipes.

Heating the water would take too long. Those washing machines don't exist. At least I'm pretty sure they don't. Laughing

Oops. Massive misconception on my part so.

However, I did try putting on the hot water and it didn't work. Maybe I need to run the tap to first to get the hot water running?

Your machine may not be hooked up to the hot water heater (?). Back in the States there are two separate lines running in/out from the machine to the water supply. I know one of my old villas in Gangnam had the same setup.

40 degrees Celsius, acrane86.

That's 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yes, run the hot water until it is hot then start it up. If it still does not do hot water in the machine then you have a problem.

Lol, pretty much every front loader machine uses cold water and than warms it up to the set temperature.

Laughing Only for an American.

For the rest of the planet:
0 is freezing and 40-45 is a hot shower or can scald a child.
Water boils at 100 and -40 is the same for everyone.
22-24 is a comfortable room temperature and 32-38 is a moderately hot day.

.
