OK, I ran through Itaewon buying some stuff at Foreign Food Mart and that main corner looks terrible. You know the ones I'm talking about- it used to have Burger King. Now, it has Jubilier (sp?) and Quiznos, and the right hand side shop is closed and boarded up. There's something about an ice cream shop but, frankly, I don't know if it's coming or going.
It looks terrible and why can't something good just open there and keep the business going? We all understand that it must be expensive to rent that location but it must also be expensive for Taco Bell and all of the other restaurants and shops on that main drag, but they seem to do well. I mean, if that crappy Weinerschnitzel can thrive across the street how tough can it be for something else to open there? I'd love to see a Wendy's, CiCi's Pizza or Whataburger but I'd settle for anything decent, even another McDonalds. Any thoughts and ideas? |

I'd love to see a whataburger or an in and out. Never had either. Or a good cajun place with crawfish! |

OK, there's a Steff Hot Dog restaurant across the street, not Weinerschnitzel. Same difference. But how can that place thrive on the same corner? Maybe the M-F crowd loves those hot dogs. |

Cajun? The closest thing in Korea is Popeye's Chicken. |

That corner with Quisnos on it is specifically designed to blend in with all of the other corners in Seoul - in other words it looks like hell.
Across the street from the Quiznos is the latest architectural spaceship to land in Seoul. It doesn't seem to match anything around it or near it for miles.
There have been times when I've stopped at some corner in Seoul and looked around with amazement at the "landscape". I've never seen a more disorienting and visually dysfunctional array of building.
Try it some time. In many (most?) places it's virtually impossible to match a door frame, arch, column, roof angle or other element to anything else in view. In fact, it's almost a design miracle in reverse - not hitting something twice, accidentally or otherwise. |

That McDonalds in Itaewon is doing blockbuster business in its current location. It's hard to believe that so many people travel all the way to Itaewon and then decide to eat at McDonalds, what with so many other food choices, so it must be comfort food for those who live far outside of Seoul. |

Nice that you mention that, whatever it will be (a structure entirely clad in imitation bathroom tile laminate) has at least to positive things to say about it: (1) it probably means that the obstructing construction fence near the subway elevator will be removed soon and (2) crack babies still have a shot at becoming architects!
Until they raze the Hamilton Hotel this intersection doesn't stand a chance of improvement. Everything there is designed to make the HH stand out as the intersection's prettiest building. |

I think it's more local foreigners, military, and Koreans. While I'm sure there are some people who go there due to lacking McDonald's in the provinces, that doesn't explain it being bustling even on weeknights. |

How about a nice fresh salad bar type place like a Chop't? There's enough processed greasy crap. How about something that leaves one feeling refreshed?
And Coldstone just needs to be voided from existence and back to the depths that spawned it, Comcast, Doritos, Mountain Dew, and fish cake. |
