I just got a quote from a solicitor in my area who said that for the notorisation of my degree and my subject access police check form it would be �100.

Is this way too high?

I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum that you could get it done for as little as �10 a document?

That's way too high. My local solicitor does it for a fiver for each document. Try a different place, I'm sure you can find somewhere else for cheaper than that.

I paid about 90 quid per, this time. Last time it was a tenner each. Living in the sticks has some downfalls

�80 for both docs here They do look very pretty all done up with green ribbons.

I couldn't find a Solicitor who would do it so I had to go to a Public Notary who charges more.

A public notary will charge around 80-100GBP to notarise your documents for you.

The FCO in Milton Keynes accepts notarised documents as well as 'certified true copies' of documents.

Any practising solicitor in the UK can 'certify as true copies' documents and it should only cost about 5GBP (I think that the Law Society has even imposed a maximum of 5-7GBP).

If you are paying anything more, then you are paying to have your documents notarised, which as I mentioned the FCO will accept but doesn't actually require.

Also, one final thing - if you have your subject access request - that is the one you received from the police (not Disclosure Scotland) - you don't need to notarise it before sending it to the FCO.

I wish somebody would tell the Solicitors in Middlesbrough the above info. I went around them all and they didn't know what I was talking about.

I mentioned that all I needed a 'certified true copies' but still drew a blank.
