I am simply asking for a link to corroborate your claim. I have never heard of goshitels being in bad condition. The size and pricing differs. I spent from May until August scoping out goshiwons and goshitels in 2008. I visited a lot. So, that's why I am asking.
May I ask where this "goshitel" was? In Seoul or a rural area?

No one is accusing you of lying. Calm down. I simply asked if you saw the word "goshitel" in Korean on the building or not.
And it is not trivial if you take a train somewhere thinking you can rent the night or a week. If the trains stop running, you are stuck and have to pay for a month.

Generally speaking, a "bad" goshitel or goshiwon will simply be high priced or be too small from my experience.
A motel on the other hand will range from luxury accommodations with a high price to ratty dirty insides. It varies greatly, and I believe you went to one of these instead (hence the term "roach motel").
I have never heard of someone staying only one night or week at a goshitel or goshiwon (because that's what I was trying to do in fact and was refused at every goshiwon and goshitel I went to, even though I had a Korean helping me and calling before visiting so they didn't know it was a foreigner sometimes). You put up rent money for the month (200,000 and up). That's what I eventually had to do. When I moved out near the end of the month, they were upset because they wanted me to stay a whole year and tried to get extra money from me.

Fun fact: 고시 [goshi] means exam � and the word 고시원 [goshiwon] means (literally) �exam room.�
Unless you are cramming for one night, staying only one night is not what a goshiwon or goshitel is intended for. No one is calling you a liar, just maybe you misunderstood. |
