Is there a way to obtain an E-2 visa without a visa insurance number? Those who go through programs like EPIK recieve leeway about not having the number. But do those who go through EPIK have the number to begin with?

It's important to have a visa insurance number if you will be working at a hogwan. The consulate and your employer aren't responsible for replacing your visa if it is lost or stolen. Travel insurance doesn't cover visa replacement either.

Teachers with programs like EPIK are being hired as government employees so their visas are insured by the government. Unfortunately that service isn't available to hogwan teachers so you will need to insure your own visa if you go that route.

IF you are recruited through a government program you get a NOA (notice of appointment) rather than the Visa Confirmation Number.

Those hired directly by a school (k-12), university or language center get a VCN.

They both serve the same purpose and you must have one or the other to get an E2.
