My bike was stolen from my apartment building sometime between Saturday evening and Monday morning up in Eunpyung Gu. If anyone has any info or if any one tries to sell a Black Cat bike, front suspension, brand new rear tyre (the front and back tyre are different) contact me or the police.

The joke is on the prat who did this, I have been needing to get it fixed for a while. The gear shift doesn't work properly and the chain is a link too short which means it can't go into to high a gear without skipping. It will cost them cash to fix it.

If the person who took my bike sees this, return my bike to where you got it from in same or better condition and I will let the issue drop and not involve the police.

Oh boy I'd like to see the look on that thief's face when he realizes he has to get the chain fixed. I bet he'll be really sorry and fix it and bring it right back.

Was it locked? I had mine stolen even with a cable lock on it. The lock was cut!! I thought I would never see it again. So I did the obvious, searched the neighbourhood and DID find it within an hour. It also had a shiny new lock on it! The seat was even adjusted, etc.

Maybe take a good look around your neighborhood?

I have notified all the people in Daejeon. We will keep a good look out for it. Can we get some more details on where you are located. Saying Eunpyung Gu is not very helpful. Do you understand this is a national forum. Using google maps I got nine different locations AROUND KOREA.

Come on buddy. Maybe a picture of the bike, too. Do you expect everybody to know what a black cat bike looks like.

Accept it is gone. Bikes are the most common stolen item here in Korea. Literally, trucks roam around the streets for bike to steal.

Why would some Korean decide to sell here on Dave's or other waygook orientated site. It is likely now being fixed up and ready to sell at a used bike store.

Korea is pretty safe and low crime. Bikes are just one of the outliers. I bought a used bike from somebody. Less then one week it was stolen.

For future reference.

1) Cable locks are crap. Get a U lock.
2) Always lock to SOMETHING sturdy.
3) ALWAYS lock out of sight of road or street. More so during the night.
4) If possible take inside or at the least to your floor.

my bike always stays inside with me.

if I ride to work, same thing. I find a place inside and still lock it up.

Yeah a steel lock is better. U lock or some of those locks Koreans use to lock the doors of some businesses. I use one of those and lock it to the gas pipe along ths side of my building. I guess someone could steal a tire as I only use a cable lock with those. But, the replacement expense is easy enough.

I have had three bikes stolen in Korea. One from my apartment, one from in front of a subway station, and one from in front of my hagwon. All had been locked up.

I've moved onto a car. It's only been stolen once (by a girl who was subletting my apartment when I was out of the country) but I got it back.

I think the only was to keep a bike from being stolen is to keep it inside at all times. Getting stuff stolen sucks. Boo to bike stealers.

I don't think I ever met a biker owner in this country who hasn't had their bike stolen at least once.

I used to keep my bike either in my apartment or in the parking garage of my apartment building. At work, I left it locked up near the students' bikes. There were CCTV cameras facing it, so I guess that discouraged thieves.

I ended up selling my bike to a friend when I was moving. He would remove the seat and carry that around with him whenever he locked it up.

I was lucky, I guess.
