Hi

what online materials do you use to teach language to EFL students interested in practicing debate? e.g. linking phrases, opening expressions for rebuttals, etc.

Happy to get anything but free sites would be better.

NB I have been spending the better part of yesterday and today online researching debating sites but it's almost all teaching principles of and procedures for debates e.g. tennis debates, and I can find almost nothing on teachable language.

Thanks in advance

This site has a pretty good structure and does have some key expressions in bold.

This one isn't too bad, either, for helping with the opening statement (after the issue at hand is presented):

Quote:
A motion for the debate (e.g. This house would... or This house believes...)

EDIT: You might also just look through student debate videos on YouTube or something to get an idea of the language used.

it depends on the English level of your students as well as their ages and general knowledge.

is this for formal debating in English? that is, competitive teams? or single students in the same class?
