| God, things must just be terrible back home if people are wiling to resort to this kind of crap to just get a job at a hagwon. I'm so glad I don't work in the hagwon/public school market. Salaries and benefits are just going to get pummeled by these desperate hordes picking up any job they can find. |

Like the person above me said, the best way is to get your ticket and fly over and try to negotiate a decent salary. I searched ESL cafe for jobs and ended up at a hagwon that isn't so bad and also paid me a LOT more than the offers I had received through a recruiters. I work a lot of hours, but I do get my overtime, I get paid on time, and my paycheck makes sense to me.
It took me maybe a month or so to find the job, but take your time. Don't settle for a low salary for shitty, long hours. Make sure your pay matches how many hours a week/month you're working. |
This applies to those who can afford to do this. Though I could afford to do it, I suspect many newbies couldn't. |

| I've emailed 10 recruiters. Four of those responded, and only two have sent me a follow up e-mail. The job market is definitely a bit cool right now, however accepting just any job the recruiter sends you is not a good idea. I have two years experience, and a TEFL certificate. Some of the offers I've gotten (2.1-2.2 for 9-6/7) are ridiculous. I got pretty frustrated with the situation last time, so I flew to Seoul, and had a job in a few days. I think I'm gonna have to do the same this time. If a $1000 flight on my part ensures that I get a decent job, so be it. |

| DaeguNL - I'm assuming you went through recruiters once you got to Seoul and did a Japan run? |

yes, that is correct. Recruiters definitely give priority to those that are IN Korea..kind of a "I better get this guy/girl a job fast so I can get paid!" |
