In PS, 22 classes/week is the maximum, unless you are doing some extra paid afterschool classes. But what is the maximum number of classes that one can be scheduled per day? |

I've seen people do 6, but that's usually rare. Sometimes 5. But some days might be 2 or 3 to bring you to 22 a week. Some rural areas may have you doing much less per week on average, maybe 15 to 18 a week. But then some want to squeeze every class they can get out of you. I suspect Seoul or some other big city is going to be 22. I'm usually near the limit. Seems my average is 21, then for part of the semester I get some extra after school class. This brings me to 22 for part of the semester and is designed so I get no overtime pay, but within my 8:30 to 4:30 day. |

In a rural area it's likely you'd work at few schools rather than just one, so you'll probably still be around the 20 p/w mark. I had a day last year with 6 classes and effectively also have one this year (5 classes plus two twenty minute nursery classes). I had a day with only 2 classes last year so it balances out. Any days of 5 or 6 classes just mean you'll have other easier days |

I'm at a rural school in Gyunggido. I do 26 a week. I get paid over time, but if there were classes cancelled due to trips, hurricane, etc. I get paid for 22. Six regular class a day is max because students go home after that. Students with need for supplementary lessons remain though. I don't teach them. |

AFAIK, public school contracts don't stipulate any maximum number of classes in a day, just a maximum number of working hours, i.e. 8 hours.
So I don't think there is a maximum number of classes you can have in one individual day. How many lesson periods are there in your school day? It's perfectly feasible that you could have a class in each of them. I've known of people who had 7 or 8 classes in a day, but a high number like that would nearly always mean a pretty light schedule for the rest of your week.
Incidentally, 22 isn't the maximum you can teach. 22 is the threshold beyond which they have to pay you extra. If your normal schedule has you teaching 24 classes, for example, you can't turn round and say 'sorry, only 22 for me'. However, they must pay you extra for any week in which your total lesson number exceeds 22. If it doesn't exceed 22, perhaps because of a cancelled class, then they don't have to pay you anything extra. |

A couple years back I had 7 classes on a Monday, that meant that the rest of my week was pretty light though. |

8 hours per day and 28 classes per week are your contractual maximum.
In theory you can get asked to work up to 7 classes per day but I don't think I have ever met anyone who did more than 6/day that were regularly scheduled classes. 4-5 is most common unless you are doing overtime classes and then 5-6.

Thanks for all your replies.
In my case, I am scheduled 20 classes per week. I asked because I am schedules 7 classes on one particular day. On that day, I teach will be teaching at 2 schools: 4 at one school and 3 at another school. I would have to travel between schools.
I was just wondering if there exists any POE regulation as to the maximum number of classes that can be scheduled on any given day. |

Just to clarify, I've known 2 people who had 8 in a day.
One had a regular class periods 1-6, an afterschool class period 7 and then a Korean teachers' class period 8, all within her 8.30 - 4.30 working day. She never exceeded the 22 per week, in fact IIRC her weekly class load was under that, 19 or 20 I think.
The other person worked in a small isolated school where the afterschool program was effectively part of the regular school day and all students attended it. He had 4 regular classes before lunch and then 4 afterschool classes after lunch. He too actually had a pretty light load in total, well below the 22 threshold.
Obviously, 4-5 a day is going to be the most likely. But I'd say it really does just depend on various circumstances at the school. Sometimes there's a particular reason why so much has to be crammed into one day. Like, for example, either the NET or the Korean co-t, or both, only being available on certain days because of other commitments, such as working in another school or also teaching another subject. |

Pretty sure there isn't, and if there was, I'd be even more sure that it wasn't less than 7.
It's a little unfortunate that it's panned out for you that way, but it happens quite a lot and you'll obviously have a fairly easy remainder of the week. Once you get a bit more settled in your base school, you could perhaps politely enquire if there was any way one of your classes on that day could be switched to a lighter day. But as I said above, it's often the case that what you got was the only way they could fit it all in.
BTW, make sure you're getting the allowance for working in more than one school. |

How does the math work there? I can't quite relate.
3 times 5 days in a week = 15
2 times 5 days in a week = 10
You need to do at least 4 per day and two days 5. I got regular overtime and did 6, 4, 6, 5, 6 with GEPIK. Seems like a lot, but again I got overtime, and after the 2nd month, 5th and 6th graders went to their hagwon classes, so I was down to 5,4,5,4,5 with the same pay |

There is no maximum per se. In theory they could give you 7 classes on one day and zero classes on another. As long as you're working within the 22 hours weekly maximum then there is no rules for day to day scheduling.
But my maximum was last year when I taught five classes in one day, and In all the public schools I have worked at I have never taught more than that. My minimum was two classes but the average for me is 3-4. |
