I'm a Canadian with an F5 visa. I will be getting married soon with my Filipina girlfriend and she will move to Korea. Do you know what type of marriage visa she can get (F2 or F6-1)? How long (difficult) is the process?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

I'm on an F-2-7 (points based residency visa) and sponsored my Canadian wife for an F-2-7 visa as well. It took 9 days for her to get the visa once we submitted the docs to Immi. Check the later posts of this thread (http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=215734&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=f-2-7&start=15) for the procedure we followed. The process should be similar in your case, but you may want to double-check with Immi.
Welshguy sponsored his Filipina wife for an F-2 through his F5, so you should be able to do the same.
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! |

Son Deureo is correct.
I sponsored my Philippina wife an F2-3 Visa. I have an F5 Visa.
You need to show Immigration TWO marriage certificates. One from Canada and one from the Philippines. Her F2-3 Visa will be unsuccessful without those documents.
If you get married in Canada, your Canadian marriage certificate needs to be registered in the Philippines. This takes about 2 - 3 months.
Once you have both marriage certs, the processing time will take 1 week for her F2-3.
Holding thumbs for you! |

Thank you Son Deureo and Welshguy! Your answers are very helpful.
I have a few more questions I hope you can help me with:
1. Welshguy, can your wife legally work in Korea on an F2-3 visa?
2. We will be getting married in Korea. Would just a Korean marriage certificate be enough?
3. Is it a simple process to get a marriage certificate in the Philippines?
I appreciate any answers you can provide. Cheers. |

I just looked at the link you provided Son Deureo. Sounds like it's possible to just have a Korean marriage certificate that is recognised by both embassies. I hope immigration doesn't have any extra requirements for Filipino citizens who get married in Korea. |

1. Yes. Scope of activity - Unlimited.
2. Take a trip to Immigration or call 1345. They are usually really helpful for someone with an F5. Kinda like a Korean citizen.
3. You have to send a certified copy of your Korean marriage certificate to the National Statistics Office (NSO) in the Philippines.Take a trip to the Philippine Embassy (Itaewon in Seoul). They will forward it on to the NSO.
If you don't mind my asking, how did you qualify for your F5? |

Thanks again for the info Welshguy. It's reassuring to know that she will be able to work at any job.
I was able to receive an F5 visa because I satisfied the following four conditions:
1. On the same E-2 visa for 5 consecutive years
2. No criminal record in Korea
3. Passed Level 2 on the TOPIK test
4. Earned a certain percentage of the Korean GDP (in 2009, you had to earn at least 45 million won... it changes every year) |

Your income has to be more than 2 X current GNI. You may contact the immigration office to get the current figure.

Got my F5 the same way you did.
Let me know when you get the F2-3 for your wife as I have another friend in a similar situation. |
