| I prefer stations without the doors. A few people might decide to leap in front of the train once in a while but I like being able to lean over and look waaaay back into the darkness and try to listen to the wind and predict when the train will arrive. |

Cool stuff in Sangmu? KJ must've changed a lot since I left.
Great photos, mate. Any more tucked away somewhere? |

Found a couple of shots on the internet, looks like at least one station is fitted with platform edge doors:

| Took a ride on the subway today. Went out to the Sungmu area and walked around the new sejung outlet mall. Nice place modeled after a Spanish villa with a big court yard in the center. The subway was full going in both directions. Got out at the Provincal Hall and found that this station too has the doors controlling entrance and exit to the cars too. Overall a good experience. |

I agree with Beav. This is especially true in this country, with the accelerator/brake-happy drivers and their jerky starts and stops. Instant nausea. |

Never experienced bus-brake induced nausea myself, and grateful for it.
I love riding the bus the world over. Of course this is probably because where I grew up in the States, and most places I have lived in the States, bus service was not even a remote possibility. No choice at all but to buy a car, keep it in good repair, put gas into it, pay the registration and insurance. Compared to that, the Korean bus systems are heaven!
My town just got bus service...and of course, when they stopped running at 9:30, I got kicked off the bus and had to walk home.
I can't wait to ride the Gwangju subway! |

Ok, I have now travelled the ENTIRE Gwangju subway. I mean, passed through the exit/entry of every station. In two days. It is a lovely system, but it doesn't go ANYWHERE! If you are a student or faculty member at Honam University, it might be nice. Or if you regularly shop downtown and need to compare prices at Yangdong Market. And the commuter parking garage might be useful for people who live in the boonies in the direction of Sotae Station.
But when trying really hard, I did enjoy visiting the Gwangju Buddhist College and that large pond filled with pink lotus flowers near Sangmu. |
