How long does it usually take to hear a response from a recruiter?

If someone wants or needs you (they have a buyer for you) - 16 hours.

If you are just one more name on the list - days, weeks, never.

REMEMBER - a recruiter does NOT work for you. They work for the employer. They will respond if you are the choice that the employer wants. They won't if the employer does not choose you.

BEST way to get a response - get some snaps done of you doing something fun with kids and attach them to your application.

.

I had one recruiter that found a job position for me. Within the same week I applied as a matter of fact. Unfortunately, I wasn't unable to take it because the school was unaware that I didn't have a visa until the interview. I don't understand how they were surprised since I stated that I didn't have one in my cover letter. After I told the recruiter about it, she kept asking me to send my documents over to start the visa process.

I didn't send them because no contract with a school for a position. And what would they need my documents for if there's no contract?

Thanks for the advice. Basically, recruiters just send out applications to schools based on the school's preferences.

I don't know your situation. Too many details are left out.

If you are in Korea, then that would make sense. If you are in your home country, then either they thought you were already in Korea and could do a transfer or they didn't read your cover letter.

Don't expect the recruiter to actually read your stuff. They are just passing things between you and the school.

This sounds like she is preparing you for another school, one that isn't looking for a teacher ASAP.

They want to get you a visa issuance number. You are kind of right about there not being a contract. However, the recruiter is right in the sense you need your documents. If you have your documents all ready, then you should print out the contract and sign three copies. One is for you. One is for the school, and the other one is for immigration. They will/should sign and send you back one of them.

You would also need to send your passport if you can have it processed and mailed to you. I am not sure if you need to send it if you are going to go to the Korean embassy. My guess is yes, but maybe someone else can correct me on this if I am wrong.

I'm looking for my first Esl job. I was in my home country when the school interviewed me. If I was hired, the school agreed to pay for the airfare and provide sponsership of the visa. It stated that in the contract the recruiter sent me from the school. But contracts aren't solid in Korea.

And agreed. I don't think the school read my information because the interviewer kept asking me for information easily found on my resume.

I have all my documents needed. But there's no contract to sign and send along with my documents. I thought you only send the visa documents once a school agrees to hire you after the interview.

When I did it, I signed the contract because I didn't go to the Korean consulate. They processed the visa and mailed it to my home address.

They need the contract to process the visa at least. I am not sure if you can get a visa issuance number without the contract. In any event, I would want a signed contract anyway from the school, so it just makes more sense to get it all done first. If they sign the contract and you have to go to the Korean consulate, then you would need the contract then. Might as well get it straightened out now.

It's amazing how many times I've been to an interview and they haven't even read my resume yet. I'm pretty sure they just look at the picture.

"So, do you have experience teaching adults?"
"Ah....yeah....like three years worth....did you even look at my resume?"

"What was your phone number? I couldn't find it?"
"It's on my resume. Front page. At the top."

Things are changing. It used to take 24 hours to 3 days. It might take longer now with more people applying, The recruiter generally has to review several resumes at a time and come up with a decision who to contact.
