Does anyone know if there are any snooker clubs in the Seoul/Incheon area? I'm looking for a place with a full 12*6 table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Snooker.org lists the Korean Billiard Players Assocation. Address and phone number:

Sungwoo Bldg.
Yeoksam-Dong
792-53 Kangnam-Ku Seoul
Korea
Tel: 02 561 561-2047
Fax: 02 561-2046

My guess is they'e the only ones who can help you out. If you don't speak Korean, get a friend who does to call.

T-Rex and Mr. Smith didn't know of any, but I'll be sure to pass on the info posted by CentralCali. They may want to join you.

Thanks CentralCali. I'll give them a ring and see what happens. @NYC Gal - If I find anywhere, I'll pass the details on to T-Rex.

Snooker was an Olympic sport in the '88 Olympics, so I always assumed if there were any tables in the country, they would be in the Jamsil area, most likely in a basement and probably covered in dust.

However, I've seen photos online of a place in Seoul with two or three tables (they looked crammed together though) and I've heard that a hotel in Incheon has a snooker table.

A student in my British Culture class was very interested when I showed them snooker, so I said if he found a table to play on, I'd take him for a game. He did find a place, but you could only use the table(s) while you were paying for instruction.

Edit: I'm sure I remember seeing on the Korean Billiard association that they have a Korean open snooker tournament, so there definitely ARE tables here. It seems to me they are just for use by professionals, whether practicing, playing competition or giving instruction, and I guess it would be the instruction fees that allow them to be do it as a 'profession'. Just a guess.

Thanks for the info folks. Still haven't found anything, but I have a lead on a Seoul hotel that has a table. Will check everything out and post if I find anything worthwhile.

I just tried another web search and got this place:
Quote:
Fraser Place Central Seoul
202, Uijuro1-Ga, Jung-Gu

The Leisure section says it offers "Billiards/Snooker." I think you'd probably have to actually go there and look at the table and the equipment to determine if they really do have snooker.

If that doesn't pan out for you and you're looking for a bit of a challenge (and you don't mind playing without pockets), you can pick up Asia's version of 3-cushion. In Asia, each player has their own cue ball and there are two target balls, neither of which is the opponent's cue ball.

I have played snooker a couple of times in Korea. It was a few years ago now. Once in a place near Ddong dae moon and once in a place near Juan station in Incheon.

Every time I played the tables were in good shape but the pockets were incredibly tight and it was almost impossible to pot anything. Even a close range simple pot into a corner pocket turned into a real challenge and potting along a cushion or from distance wasn't even worth trying. I think that's why I didn't go again because it was so frustrating and there was little chance of getting breaks higher than 10.

I quick search online came up with the following

http://kbf.sports.or.kr/xe/bbs/board.php?bo_table=B04&wr_id=164&page=7

This link says there are two places with snooker tables, one in Dong dae moon ( maybe the place I have played at ) telephone number 02 957 3473, and the second in Yeong dueng po (영등포, 당산동 subway line 2) telephone number 02 2637 8809

There are probably more places and the best people to ask are the people who work at these places as I imagine snooker in Korea has quite a small following and everybody will know each other

Perhaps if could get a Korean friend to call ahead before going you might be able to find something in a different area

I would be keen for a game or two if you need someone to play with, let me know if you find anything

Good luck
