Propecia and rogaine are not cures. They can help maintain hair or even regrow some, but not much more than that. Genes are powerful things. |
First off, I was keeping it real. Secondly, not once did I say that they are cures, I should have said 'There is no excuse for men under the age of 35 to be bald' though. |

Well, if they are not cures then maybe there IS an excuse for men under 35 to be bald.
My point is that these pills and potions won't work that well, will stop working or won't be strong enough to counteract one's genetics for long. |

| I want to get a hold of some of that Nizoral 2% shampoo. Any idea where to get that in Korea? And, more importantly, what to say/write down in Hangul? |

Just go to any pharmacy and ask for Nizoral and they should be able to help you. The bottle will say 'Nizoral' on it somewhere.
An older thread now! I ended up changing shampoo (just used some cheap crap before) and saw a massive change. But now it's thinning again.... |

Okay, I'll give that a shot I guess. I guess the E-mart pharmacy would be a good place to start.
For anyone interested there is a really good comprehensive site that tells you (best chance) to keep your hair/regrow etc. I started thinning a bit but still have a nice head of hair. Want to start switching up my shampoo to keep what I have going. Not gonna mess with the pills stuff, but wouldn't mind trying a topical thing if it ever gets worse.

I got it at my regular pharmacy and it was 15,000 won. I've just started using it, so I have no idea how effective it is. My hair's too far gone to expect very much, though.  |

Hmmm.. well, I'm not that far gone, IMO... so I think maybe now would be a decent time to start.

Just glancing quickly, I saw Nizoral and minoxidil (Rogaine) and there's probably other stuff as well.
My hair loss is pretty extensive so I tend to keep it super-short and go faux dome, but I'm going to ease in to using a few products and see what happens. I know 100% regrowth is impossible because I waited too long but maybe I can restore a bit and look a bit less like Jean-Luc Picard. |

I bought 비가졸액 (Bigazol sol) which contains 케토코나졸 (Ketoconazole) which is the same as the active ingredient in Nizoral. It cost 8000 won for 100 ml and I got it at my local Emart Pharmacy. |

OP, honestly - when I first noticed that I had just started thinning (over 10 years ago), I wish I had gone completely gangbusters with every product out there (especially the ones that have some hint of scientific evidence), but I just waited and wasted time with things like shampoo to 'see what would happen'. I would at least go for Minoxidil, marketed under the Rogaine brand, however, now you can get the stuff for LESS THAN HALF the price (under the "Kirkland" brand). When reading up on the studies/evidence, the results always tend to be better if you start in the initial stages of thinning..
Also, it's rare to hear of anyone who starts thinning, then stops. Don't let a couple years go by. I recommend buying a 6 - 9 month supply of it to start. Many people stop after a few months due to impatience... but the limited evidence does show that it takes a minimum of 3 months just for the 'shedding' stage to start, let alone hair regrowth.
All my opinion.. I have shaved my head very short for the past 2 years, and decided to give minoxidil a try starting a month ago - seems much easier to apply and rub in with no hair to interfere lol. |

Yes I agree. If you want to keep your hair the best solution seems to be to start with Nizoral and minoxidil as soon as you notice you're losing your hair. I have a pretty full head of hair, but noticed that it started to get thin quickly about 4 years ago. I started with Minoxdil about that time and my hair has staid pretty much the same since then, which I'm happy with, since my hair looks pretty normal unless it gets wet or you look at my hair from atop. The only problem is that, since I have so much hair the minoxdil messes it up quite a lot. Has anyone found the foam here in Korea? And how can the price compare?
Some of the other stuff seems even more potent, but the pills seem to have stronger side effects which makes me hesitant to try them. I like to keep my hair, but only as long as the price I have to pay to keep it is minor (like the 5 minutes a day minoxdil takes). |
