I tried posting this on the General Discussion forum with no luck. Hopefully, I'll get some responses here!
I'm thinking about heading to graduate school and getting my master's in either Applied Linguistics or TEFL/TESOL. I've searched Dave's for school recommendations, but most threads are pretty old. I'm looking for updated information and recommendations. Any country!
I'm also hoping to find schools that offer either full tuition waivers or fellowships/assistantships to students. I've found a couple (American University in Cairo and Bilkent), but I was hoping a thread on Dave's would uncover more opportunities.

You could try State University of New York College at Buffalo (located in Bangkok  ). Although it's not an Applied Language degree or a TESOL. It's a MS in Multidisciplinary Studies (all education). |

| Check out university of birmingham. they have online programs with both applied linguistics and Tefl. Ill be starting my applied linguistics there shortly. There is also a sticky somewhere on this site with a giant list of programs and schools. |

| I would advise you to stay clear of Birmingham Uni. The program isn't that great and the staff are pretty poor. It's damn expensive too. |

Birmingham's program is one of the better known in the world. They are near the top in applied linguistics, and particularly well known for their work in corpus studies. It is a research degree, though, so you'll have little hand-holding as you negotiate the world of entry-level graduate research. If you're more interested in a taught program, there are myriad options available in the states. Framingham, UMass, Shenandoah, etc. are some good options.

| I am currently enrolled in the MATESOL program with KEISIE Graduate School of Education, here in South Korea. It is a good program so far, and quite inexpensive. |

| Also check out the MA, combined MA/PhD programs in English Education and Applied Linguistics at Korea University. Pretty decent programs with good chances at qualifying for a scholarship.Another uni to consider is Yonsei, they offer an MA in English with a focus on phonetics, if that is a field you might consider. |

Just out of interest, what were your issues with Birmingham, Seoulman? Did you end up completing your degree with them? |

Is this place even able to confer degrees? The below is from Wikipedia, but doesn't inspire confidence:
Accreditation
In South Korea, the Ministry of Education directs university accreditation matters, and the Korean Council for University Education serves as a university accreditation agency.[14] KEISIE Graduate School states it is licensed, authorized, and approved by the government of South Korea.[15] The school was registered domestically as a business on May 18, 2007, under the name �K.E.I.� and listed as a �외국어학원 (온라인)� (oegugŏ hagwŏn [onlain]; foreign language institute [online]). In general it's a poorly run program which is getting by on its reputation. There are constant complaints on the group emails, lack of professionalism from tutors and the heads of the department, outdated lecture notes, high price increases, and grade bias towards non native students.
I have almost completed it but if I had the chance again I would avoid the place like the plague. I've spent a massive amount of money on this and I deeply regret choosing Birmingham. If you want to use a UK university I would check out what else is on offer. I heard Nottingham is good and a bit cheaper. They also have Dornyei, who is a bit of a legend. |

| Check out Australia and New Zealand. University of New England and Victoria University have some decent programs. If you're looking to do them distance, that is. |
