| Dude can't sing, but that's besides the point. This was obviously made with the intention of amusing the students in his new school and I daresay this video achieved that goal. He's obviously not afraid of making himself look silly and this kind of comment makes only succeeds in making you look like a humourless douche. It's tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken seriously - lighten up. |
I have to agree with Dodge on this one. The video is not meant to be taken seriously but with that comes the risk that Leon teacher will not be taken seriously. The guy basically introduced himself as a clown to be laughed at. I didn't see any Korean teachers in the video. Perhaps that makes a stronger point than any words. |

Are any English teachers working in foreign countries taken seriously? Is it a serious job? I thought it was just an excuse to party? |

| The other problem is of course the content. The lyric and the choreography is rather racy and not fit for minors. (PSY's version) Don't know about high schools but at my elementary it is being quietly ignored and not used in educational context. |

Good point. I wouldn't want to rub salt into my own wounds by making a video like that though. |

Yep. It hasn't stopped the Korean teachers at my school from rehearsing this song with their Kindy students for the school Musical week.
And, of course, the Korean parents will think their performance is cute rather than inappropriate. |

Seriously, don't they know the ride 'em cowboy dance is sexual in nature? Oh, Korea. |

The Saturday Night Live parody was great.
Then the real Psy comes out and finishes it off. Hilarious.

Hey this is Leon, from Mr. Leon Style. Finally got approved to post on the site it sure did take a while. I want to thank Kepler for putting my video on here. To address the concerns that some of the others with rational points (not: "Born loser") It is true I am a terrible singer. With that out of the way.
Okay, I have a Master's of Arts in Teaching. The teaching job market in the states is horrendous right now, so I find myself and my wife (also a teacher) in Korea. When we were briefed on our duties we were told "do not try to teach too much in a single class" (because as we are teaching as native speakers to lower level students they wont catch all of it) instead make your English class fun. As such we thought that this video idea would be a great way to get the students attention and then interested in our classes. Two weeks after we have taught the introduction lessons I can attest that it got their attention.
To address the point about it being a little inappropriate, we agree. That is why we edited out the elevator scenes for our videos that we showed to the classes. Also, I teach at a high school and my wife teaches at a middle school. So it is not like we were showing this to first graders.
Finally, the concern that we will not be taken seriously as teachers. To answer that I would say we are trained educators, and classroom management is a day to day endeavor. Luckily this is nor our first rodeo. We know how to manage a classroom even with the class having fun at our expense. We have taught in the USA where we had to deal with directly disrespectful students who curse you to your face. Here in Korea the only problem I really have to deal with is keeping my exhausted high schoolers awake enough to get anything into their heads.
Alrighty, if you have anything else you would like to say I am willing to respond let me know. |

If its really you, (and I have no idea), I'll just applaud you for your courage in putting yourself out there.
Dave's has a lot of hate. Just bear that in mind. Its for venting, and this forum sees especially a lot of venting. So don't take it personally. |

The thread title "Oppa Gangnam Style!" should be changed to:
Oppa'n Gangnam Style!
It's not 오빠 강남 스타일. It's 오빤 (as in 오빠는) 강남 스타일. |

I asked my 5th grade class: What is 어구? (phrase, expression). Then I asked: Is '오빤 강남 스타일', an 어구? Should've seen the face of disapproval from the co-t.
Last I checked PSY's virus had gone to 264 million hits. Longway to go before catching Justin the Beaver's 770 million. |
