This is a disturbing viral video. Should this be happening in Itaewon?

I want to add that this is not my video, but it is a viral video on youtube. Many waygookin are upset about any Itaewon establishment prohibiting foreigners from the premises. I am just passing it along to you for informational purposes. |

Viral or not is beside the point, smoking baby. Got something meaningful to say about the video other than that? |

I'm curious as to the actual laws in Korea regarding this sort of thing. Wasn't there something down in a Busan sauna that cause a mini-storm a year or so back - anything come of that? |

Yeah probably not a candidate for the seminar I'm giving on "Triple Media" next week.
As for Koreans only, I don't like it but they might be trying to save foreigners from disappointment when they get in there and find that tables start at 300k, and the girls are all with highly strung locals who don't take kindly to seeing their dates being accosted by foreigners on the way back from the powder room. Call ahead and book top-level bottle service, they might change their tune. |

Seen a few threads recently about this. Is Itaewon really turning into this type of place now? |

T-J, it may not be your definition of a "scandle" but it is "viral" given the number of foreigners, "many, many waygookin", as you would say, in Korea. The video doesn't have as many hits as "Psy's Gangnam Style" but it is still a viral video. |

The video has been posted on a FB page with over 8,000 members for weeks and has only been viewed 2,000 times.
Hardly viral.
As for the bar in question. There are so many bars in Itaewon that haven't allowed Korean nationals over the years I'm not going to get my panties in a wad over this one.
Dollars to donuts says that if they spoke Korean well enough, were the right age, and dressed appropriately they could have gotten in.

Most foreigners who have been in Korea for more than a few months could care less about this. Really not missing very much except spending a lot of money and being bored. So here is the solution boycott the place. See it's easy now you can worry about something else. |

You mean there's one bar in an area associated with bars, clubs, etc. that doesn't let foreigners in? Man, I'll have to stop going to Itaewon. Dude, simple solution: go next door or to any other one of the dozens (if not hundreds) of places in the Itaewon area. |

Eh, she clearly stated it was for Koreans only so I don't know why you think that. However, I've been in there...I'm an average looking white guy. Actually might be worse, maybe they just don't want non-white foreigners going in there. I agree a boycott is the best solution. If this is an acceptable business policy in Korea than I hope more people advertise the places where it happens. I have no desire to go to places that discriminate based on race, regardless of whether or not it's my race they are discriminating against. At least Tin Pan had the decency to put a sign up and not give their establishment an ironic name like "London Lounge"....what was the owner thinking?
BTW to anyone interested it's just a small basement club with overpriced drinks and way too many dudes with bow ties and capris pants. Not missing much at all.
As for the girl at the door, someone needs to give her a class on subtle racism...she was way too obvious. If she had said they weren't dressed well enough the video wouldn't have gotten anybodies attention and the smoking baby could say the guys just looked like slobs, and we only say they are racist bc we are paranoid, insecure, projecting etc etc etc |

This. I find that most places that don't typically let foreigners in are pretty boring. They can keep their run of the mill club. |

Because of experience.
