I have accepted a job at Reading town Daejeon. Can anyone tell me what I can expect/look forward to ?

I worked at a Reading Town in Seoul a few years ago. It was great! Pension and health insurance were a part of the pay package, the apartment was clean, the boss was cool, and she paid on time every time.
The hours were 1-9 and the curriculum was good for a newbie teacher since it was largely pre-organized. It was a classroom hagwon with no field trips, plays, indoor playrooms, and so on. From an operational standpoint, I imagine it's very similar to most other 1-9 hagwons. You teach the classes, check the homework, fill out report cards, and so many of the things that happen at all hagwons. There seemed to be more phonics classes, however, but those are a piece of cake with limited paperwork.
I'm only at my third school, and I would rate them as follows:
Reading Town: A
Wonderland Anyang: F-
the hagwon where I am now: A+ so far, but my first payday is supposed to be tomorrow, so we'll see... |

Problem is Reading Town is a biggish chain. I know of a couple and one is getting treated well at one reading town, while another is getting some run around and troubles from another.
It matters on which Campus and/or which area. Some have different bosses and/or managers. |

I haven't worked for a Reading Town but I can tell you a bit about the area. It's in a large building in Dunsan with MANY hagwons. In the immediately vacinity is a ton of restaruants (Korean, BK, KFC etc), a couple of Homepluses, and maybe most importantly, city hall subway station.
I imagine aparment-wise you'll be quite close as there are several buildings stuffed with foreigners. Every apartment I have been to in the area has been quite new and modern.
You're also very near Timeworld. Timeworld has a few foreign bars and lots of flashing lights if you're into that sort of thing. Daejeon is a good city. Nothing too exciting but we like it that way. |

| Not sure if you've made it there or not, but even if you're placed at another Reading Town, Daejeon is a great city. Another Reading Town I know of is in my old neighbourhood of Songchon-dong. It's right on the edge of town, but a really good neighbourhood to live in. All the foreigners live within two blocks of each other, and if it's still like how it was a couple of years ago, everyone gets together at a local bar to hangout. Not as flashy as Dunsan-dong, and you'll end up over there most weekends, its quieter and simpler out in the 'burbs. lol |
