|
|
Ok I am not here to discuss the merits of what I did. I was wrong and I shouldnt have done it.
With that said I left last year with a phone and without canceling contract thinking I wasnt coming back (pulled abrupt runner)
I have read someone say it was impossible to get another phone / the other phone company will pull your credit history and decline you. Is this 100% accurate or is it possible to get another phone through a different company?
If that is the case it appears my only option would be
1) Settle the debt with phone company. Obviously not the entire amount I am due, be like ill give you X.
2) Buy a smartphone outright and get a pay as you go / pre paid sim card ect |

Can always just buy a regular cell with a different company and use a pre-paid card. They'll never check your credit history. Not sure about smart-uh-pone-suh, however. |

Since you admit it was wrong and since you don't dispute the amount, you should pay the entire bill in full, including penalties and interest, if any, as soon as you are able or immediately upon your return. This you should do without regard to the fact that you would like to get another phone in the future. Having done so, you will have redeemed your moral deficit, and you will have positively affected your chances to obtain a phone in the future.
Given how the world is gradually linking the personal information contained in databases everywhere, it is advisable to maintain a history as clean as possible, especially for those who are young and have a long future ahead in a bureaucratic world without privacy or sympathy. |

That is not an option as id imagine the amount owed would be in the order or 3K+.
So my only realistic options right now is a debt settlement (not even sure how to go about that in Korea) or buying an unlocked smartphone and getting some pre paid / pay as you go plan (not even sure they have these for smartphones)
That is assuming I get denied when I go to a different phone company and attempt to get a new phone / contract |

This if you really feel bad and realize what you did was wrong.

Unless you want to spend all your time after your return to Korea with a pre-paid phone then your only options are to pay it off or get a new phone in someone else's name.

Foreigners are limited to one cell phone contract each. There is no such limitation on Koreans. If you get a Korean girlfriend she can get you a cell phone in her name. |

Dang, I might be screwd then.
Hmm hopefully I can give back the phone and do a debt settlement with SK or something.
Anyone know how someone would go about getting those talks initiated?

Odd that you've (so-called on your part) internalized this, but haven't accepted that you should also be punished. Some confession there...eh...
...anyways most likely you will have to pay the full price tag of the phone at the time that you purchased it. Hopefully, they'll also make you pay the amount that you contracted with them.
You should contact SK and talk to a sales representative. They should send you to a supervisor who will help you deal with it.
Hope that helps. If not, well, nothing lost.

You've already mentioned buying a flat screen TV and an iphone 5 in other threads. Time to put on your big boy pants and pay your debts like a responsible adult. |

There is a substantial difference between 300-400k and 3mil+
Another thing I just realized is the internet for the apartment. I might could possibly live without a smartphone as I could use my older one for wi-fi but no way in hell I can live without internet in the apartment. |

Ill give them back the phone (in mint condition) and pay up to 1mil won.
Wonder if that will be enough.... |
