planning a trip to Itaweon this weekend. i've yet to be impressed by the shopping there. last time it won me over with the food, but where can i find (non-food) western items for the buying? clothes, deoderant, toothpaste, big old women's shoes, etc. etc. thanks!

I have been unimpressed by the clothing in Itaewon too, though I have done some out of necessity. There are a couple places that sell clothes for women--one called BKTO or BTKO or something....I don't remember the name, but it's on a thread here somewhere. The other is called A&H Outlet, where I have had decent luck with shoes and slightly less decent luck with clothing. I do recommend the former place. The owner is really friendly, and my only gripe is that they lack selection in the way of skirts, and the stuff occasionally smells a tad musty before being washed.

If you're a typical NET size and have taste you're going to try harder than just perusing Itaewon. I actually found a t-shirt and sweater in Emart that I liked!! I know, hard to believe. I've looked in Homeplus but .. nothing. NOTHING.

You could look around Dongdaemun Market, although it seems to specialise in tight clothing.

i'm a size 12. it is not impossible to find clothes that fit, but i would like to find more stylish clothes in my size. what about forever 21? today's kikinitinkorea leaves me wondering

Go to Myeongdong.
Itaewon has clothes that will fit - but they aren't great style or quality wise.
Myeongdong has a Zara, Forever 21, and a few others that I have forgotten all within a couple of blocks. Even if you are an American size 12 you should find some clothes that fit and look good.

heh. not that i'm insulted, but i remember a time when a size 12 wasn't viewed as a "larger size."

size 12 american isn't in the plus size ranges. i can't shop in a larger ladies store in the US. not sure if that's a good idea for me or not here, though.

[all of my shirts come from smaller local shops, but trying to fit a booty into pants or a tight skirt here is a j o k e!]

i should note: i'm coming in from way out of town and will actually go anywhere in seoul to find these things. thanks for the information. (i did try googling, by the way. must not have used the correct terms.)
