|
|
Hey all,
I'm trying to set up a paypal account to work with my bank account here in Korea and I've run into a snag I can't figure out how to get around. It is asking me to input my national ID number, and so I input my ARC number, which has the same amount of numbers as the example they gave, but it keeps telling me I'm not inputting it in the correct format. I've tried a couple of different ways, but I can't get past this point.
Anyone here figure out paypal?
Thanks! |

Most things in Korea are effed up. Like for example this website selling good foriegner items and only accepting a Korean citizen number. At times Korea is illogical and makes no sense. You have to deal with it. You could always call Paypal and complain since it is international. I use Paypal but from my Canadian account. |

Paypal will not allow foreigners to register their bank accounts in Korea. This has to do with the numbering of our registration number (the second set of digits), the fact their system will not recognize it, and at least according to the employee who responded to my inquiry about it a few years ago, they have no plans to change it.
If you need to get money into a paypal account and dont have or dont want to use a credit card, you will have to get someone else to send money to the account and just pay that person yourself, use a bank account from home, or otherwise use a third site like moneybookers which will allow foreigners to register a Korean bank account, and then send money from there to paypal (this will cost about 15% in commissions between both sites...so not exactly an ideal method) |

Is it possible as a foreigner to get a credit card in Korea? A prepaid credit card? Would that work with paypal without a national ID number? |

I know some folks have been successful at getting cards here and others can likely chime in on the issues of getting a card.
I have a peeve with credit cards and have never used one, and while I dont know for sure, I wonder if since the paypal system will not recognize foreigner ID numbers for hooking up a bank account, if the process of hooking up a credit card would also require the ID number, and the system reject it in the case of a CC as well. |

Am I missing something? Just pay with your home account, surely? |

Okay, yes, I obviously can do that, but I am still wanting to know if it is possible to open a paypal account in Korea as a foreigner. Has anyone had any success with this? And if so, how? |

Mine worked just fine with my ARC. Look for a different input area for foreigner ARC numbers. Mine's linked to my KEB account. |

If possible and you dont mind, could you post a link to a screen grab of this other area you are referring to? I have once again tried to register my bank, and continue to get the following message.
The bank information you have added is invalid or missing. Please try again.
You did not enter your National ID number correctly. Please try again. |

Both a deposit based and unsecured are possible. I had a deposit based card with KEB for a few years.
If you have a university job, it will likely be easier to get a credit card. I was able to get both an unsecured KEB card and a Samsung Card (the only one accepted at Costco). |
