How was the manager physically abusive?
And @ Death Threats |
He got angry so he decided to 'show' some hapkido techniques to a student and me.. he did this by grabbing my arm and pressing down as hard as he could asking me if it hurt. It did hurt (and continued to for the rest of the day and then some). |
Why did you let him continue?. |
Had I been a man, 16 cm taller and 36 kg heavier, I might've done something to stop him. As it was, telling him to stop jabbing the turtle got ignored. This is a man used to having 'power'. |

Sorry for your loss and I know this doesn't give you comfort or help in your situation but a friend of mine grand father past away and requested to take 2 weeks off to fly home (on his own expense and was planning to return) to attend the funeral. Of course the same excuse was we are too busy.
My friend just said: "well, I don't know about Korean culture but in my culture family is very important and we have great respect and care for our grand parents. But if your Korean culture and your company doesn't have that same level of respect as my culture, then I am more than willing to say good bye to you now".
They gave him the time off and when he returned after 2 weeks they were suddenly all concerned about him and his family.
Koreans??? Go figure

Probably get flamed for this but there's no way you should expect to get any time off at all to go to a funeral of someone who is not immediate family. Fair enough if you live in Seoul and the funeral's in Seoul you could maybe think it was reasonable to get unpaid leave for that day, as long as they can spare you, but that's about it. If I was running a school and someone asked for 2 weeks off to go to a grandparent's funeral I'll tell them not to
come back. It's one of the sacrifices you make living and working abroad
There's around 30,000 teachers here, so 120,000 grandparents all around checking out age. that's potentially a lot of time off. |

That clown is simply a coward. His "power" comes from beating women, along with hitting kids, kicking dogs, and jabbing the head of a helpless turtle. He's a bedwetter. |
