|
|
I'm trying some vegetarian recipes (after reading another thread on this forum). It seems most all recipes (sandwich spreads anyway) use avocado. OK, I found an avocado at Grandmart Sinchon, but it was more than 5000 won! Do you think I can "Koreanize" some vegetarian recipes and replace the avocado with something local grown? Maybe those little pumpkins? I've seen those but never eaten one.
Thanks, |

Guacamole is a pretty good substitute for avocado. |

I went to Costco and found 5 for 12,500 won. Great deal, but a lot of avocados. Looks like they only keep for a week in the fridge, so I might end up making the recommended guacamole too! |

And what is the main ingredient in guacamole, again? |

If you want to freeze avocados, mash them and add a little lemon juice. |

Split the bag with a friend. Do you have any friends who also enjoy avacados? |

I would love to make fresh guacamole, but where do you find the cilantro? Limes are possible here, but I can't get cilantro. |

You can find fresh coriander (cilantro) at Gyeongdong Market. 300g for 1500won. The old women selling it always shakes it at me as i refuse it at least 3 times a week for the past year. Gyeongdong Market is a gold mine for western veg if you have the patience to look and ask. Some of the shops there supply restaurants and hotels. Even if they don't display it, if an ajuma is selling a few types of western veg then ask her for what you want. She might just disappear for 3 minutes and come back holding what you want! |

I got my avocados and mixed them in my sandwich spread and made a great vegan sandwich. Still, it was really just a cucumber salad on a sandwich. If I'm going to go vegan (or at least lean that way), is it going to be like everything I eat is just some form of salad?
Luckily, the dwean-jang-ji-gae from the local sik-dang hit the spot tonight. That stuff's vegan isn't it? Close enough for me... |

You can find Cilantro at a lot of grocery stores/supermarkets.
Ask for "고수".
I usually order my avocados online from Gmarket. The more you buy the cheaper they are. It will only take a day or two for them to arrive so when they come they wont be anywhere close to being ripe. It's safe. |
