Dudes, the lady picked up the dead frog herself.

Is there really any translation necessary? A blind deaf dumb paraplegic with a severe mental handicap should be able to go in there, present the grapes with the dead Kermit and get it exchanged or get their money refunded. This whole interaction doesn't really require words. It requires seeing a dead frog in the grapes you sold.

And this isn't some cultural thing. This is a crap shopkeeper who was failing to own up to their product.

I don't see how Dodge7 did anything wrong.

And yes, I get the fact that there are insect fragments and microscopic pieces of dead rat in my box of corn flakes. That doesn't mean I want whatever rot could be transfered onto my grapes from dead frog carcass. And, news flash, water doesn't disinfect. And no, I'm not soaking my grapes in soap or alcohol and then washing them off.

Quite possibly true in some cases but not in Dodge's case and I guess in any other country where you find a box of produce that contains a dead frog.

Language aside, the situation would go like this:

Take the box back to the store, show the dead frog in the box to the storekeeper and point to a new box while gesturing with hands to indicate that you want an exchange to be made.

The ability to communicate in the local language can still lead to possible misgivings or misunderstandings that may occur with Koreans; given some Koreans' obvious prejudices or lack of interest and care when dealing with non-Koreans.

said I would have returned the box of grapes too so you can CALM DOWN now.

It is still highly amusing picturing you mangling Korean as the ajuma wonders what the hell you are going on about. In this case, your lack of Korean proficiency clearly was a disadvantage. Next time send or bring your Korean wife and I assure you the result will be better for you.

Anyway, hope your grapes were delicious and that you washed them well once you got home again.

I am very sorry TJ, but you are mistaken.

The inability to communicate in the local language is completely irrelevant and unrelated to any possible missunderstandings that may occur with Koreans.

Remember, it is all about racism and prejudice and the burden of adaptation clearly falls squarely on the Koreans here. It is they who should learn English to accomodate the foreigners in Korea.

Repeat that 3 times out loud while clicking your shoes and you should be good to go.

Both of you are too dense to see that your argument is painting Koreans in a worse light than Dodge was trying to. he was arguing that the woman didn't want to exchange the box because she thought the dead frog wasn't a big enough issue, while you are both saying that the reason she took issue with Dodge was due to his language abilities and he would have got further if he'd been able to speak better Korean.

As many people have pointed out that there was no communication issue. Showing the dead frog and the box was enough, therfore you are both indirectly saying the Korean woman was more prejudiced against Dodge and therefore, people who can't speak the local language properly, than he was claiming. can you not see this?

The frog was the bonus gift that comes with the grapes! Maybe she just thought you were being ungreatful Smile

You don't come across as particularly humurous on here. Self-righteous, opinionated and pompous would be more apt - but I could be wrong. Maybe you are a big cuddly barrel of laughs.
Lighten up, fella. You seem intent on making it your life's mission to jump down everyone's throat at every perceived slight against Korea.

You sure nailed that. Face it, you suck at humour. Put on your big boy helmet and accept it. It's no one's fault but your own..

This ^. You guys that are proficient in the local language, good for you. It wasn't necessary to be in this case.

I don't see anything pompous about pointing out a crappy joke is a crappy joke or that clowns are incapable of critical thinking. I consider them a public service.

There you go again. Self-righteous and pompous. Just like every single entry you have ever posted here. You seem quite ready to dish it out but you sure don't like it in return.

Really every single entry? Would you be using hyperbole to try and build up your position? Bad jokes and bad debating skills. You really are a quality package.

The only reason I look pompous is because of how incompetent you're acting.

So what you're saying is that it really isn't every single entry? In other words, you were being less than honest?
