I was at my K-friend's home. His wife cooked some dinner and we shared 1 Hite pitcher. I chilled there for about 3 hours....and then proceed to head home on my motorcycle.

I came across a DUI check point. My heart sank and I got very nervous. I've heard that Korea has a NO tolerance drinking policy. I blew very lightly into the machine and then it made a beeping sound.

The cop waved me through though. I wasn't drunk or buzzed, but I thought I was going to go to jail. I parked my bike at home and walked to the local bar. I filled my gut with 6 shots because I needed something to calm me down. (I was still a little bit nervous)


So what's the law here Does anybody know

a friend I have recently got nicked on his bike.
The damage...
1 million won.
Police went into his hagwaon to inform the director and return his ARC.
6 months loss of License.

However he is Scottish, so I'm figurin a sizable percentage.

Wow a .08? That's pretty high :)

In any case, I've heard that it's the same in Korea as Australia (0.05) but this was from my dad. He doesn't live there all year round so he may be misinformed.

0.05. They are very strict on DUI and the punishment is severe.

I'm not being rightous, but, if one can't handle their drinking, then why do it? So, getting busted, that's great! It could be my child that some idiot hits with their car or it could be your child. Makes no sense to me as to why someone would want to drink so much alcohol.
Every person has a different tolerance to alcohol but that does not matter, it's what the law states that matters. In korea, it's a low number, .05 or something similiar. That's not very much alcohol for the average size person!

I do agree on the stupidity of drink drivers. The stats tell us that 2 standard drinks in the first hour and a standard drink every hour after that will maintain a 0.05 BAC, in the average person. Mass and drinking patterns will affect this. So the best idea is don't drink and drive. These stats are often quoted in commercials on Australian TV.

Crazy to drive in Korea sober let alone drunk. I drive a motorbike and, sober, that's an adventure anytime. I've seen some horrifically selfish drunken driving incidents. Last friday, about 11pm, walking home from work. Some lady in a suburban tried to run me down when I was crossing at the pedestrian walk so I threw the remainder of my ice cream sandwich at her car (thunk). She just kept on gunning it for whatever reason on a rampage. And five minutes later a guy nearly runs down two drunks jaywalking across the four lane. So all three involved were, apparently, pissed and not blinking much, just doing whatever they feel like. The drunks jaywalking and the driver going too fast, trying to intimidate the jaywalkers, at the last minute swerving past and veering while blaring his horn. It's madness

I often get stopped late at night just after going through the tolls on the highway. However more often than, not when the copper sees I'm a foreigner he just waves me through WITHOUT having to breathe in the breathe thingy.
Weird.
