If you don't earn enough you don't even have to file. |

What I meant was, I am all for Obamacare |
What is it then? To what extent does the coverage go?
1. Can I get a flu shot?
2. Can I get medicine or treatment if I become more sick than normal in winter (I would just need a few days at the hospital and then I'm out).
3. Can I get minor surgery (like with accidents or ligaments) to be able to go to work again?
4. Can I get dental work (again for appearance at work)?
5. Can I get dental work for cosmetic purposes (not essential for working)?
6. Can I get surgery which is not necessary but makes me feel better inside?
7. Can I get treatment if I pose a risk to society?
8. Can I get treatment if I get a disease?
9. Can I get treatment if I am dying or near death?
10. Can I get hospice care on my way out?
So, the scale is there. At which point does obamacare stop helping me if I pay into it? If it stops after 4 or later, then I am listening. Otherwise, why should you be responsible for treatments you might not have to pay for to begin with?
I have been quite sick several times, and it was all due to my own fault. Most recently I had a fall in February and ended up with a lung contusion. This later grew into bronchitis symptoms. Reading up on the matter, it said all a doctor could do was prescribe painkiller medicine.
So, instead of going to the hospital and running up a bill, I did my work the best I could, and then I rested for all of March basically. I didn't really need to go to the hospital even though my symptoms warranted it. |

False.
Some states do not require state tax filing, but federal does. |

This will be a non-issue once President Romney issues an executive order to kill this shinolla sandwich. |

But I am currently filling-out my absentee ballot, and I've spent 1 1/2 hours doing it and trying to track down envelopes of the proper size (yes, you have to send an envelope within an envelope, and everything must be PRINTED on the envelope -- no affixing allowed).
They even give the envelope sizes required in inches.... for foreigners overseas. Standard Korean envelopes don't make the size restrictions, unless you purchase a medium and a large one, from what I can tell. |

No, you are wrong. If you are unemployed and making $0, why would you have to file a federal income tax return??
If you make $9,500 or less and are a single person, you don't have to file. Here is the table:
Table
But if you're referring to english teachers in Korea, then yes, you obviously need to file since you're making more than that. |

This thread has always been about teaching in Korea. Obviously, that is what I was talking about.
If your plan is to come here and make less than 1 million won per month teaching, and you have no other income then you wouldn't have to file. I'm sure untold thousands of American teachers are here doing that. |

"The PPACA mandate does not include expatriates. It considers expatriates who qualify to use the IRS defined Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE) to have the minimum required amount of health insurance (even if they do not) and exempts them from having to pay penalty taxes. However, if you do not qualify for FEIE, you may still be obligated to obtain insurance under the PPACA."
What that means for those of you who have not followed any of the US political debate is that OBAMACARE does not apply to English teachers in Korea. |
