Today at 6 pm the director told us that tomorrow will be a game and party day...no teaching...then asked us to come up with games for the students to all play together. All told we have about 40-60 students per hour between all 4 of us.

Any ideas?

My plan is to teach them how to make bannock(similar to a scone or baking powder biscuit) The director and owner like the idea, I would have the students do it in groups of 10. I did it in Suwon last year and the students loved it. They get to play around with some dough, fry it up and slap some jam on it and chow down.

What kind of game could you do with large numbers of students in a relatively small classroom?

Same at my place... what the hell am I supposed to do with these kids????

I'll buy some snacks for them. My director said she'll provide drinks (I hope this includes tequila).

But seriously, I don't know what games these kids will like and I'd like to do something different than what I normally do on Fridays, like bingo and uno.

Cake walks work fairly well with large groups, as do Simon Says and Hot Potato. If you have enough space for them to run around a bit, Duck, Duck Goose and Red Rover can be a lot of fun. For really large groups, split them into two or more Duck, Duck Goose circles or 4+ Red Rover lines. Relay races also work well with larger groups as you can break them into as many small groups as you deem necessary and still keep them all involved.

We're going with a Cinco de Mayo theme today, so our kids well be learning the Mexican Hat Dance, making and destroying a pinata (the paper bag and tissue paper kind, not the paper mache kind), racing to eat tortilla chips sans hands, doing the limbo stick thing, playing a jumping bean game (jumping around to Mexican music, with anybody who moves after the music stops being out), doing the Tequilla Worm Wiggle (teams sit down, link arms and feet, and scoot toward a central goal), and doing a bean relay race (use a spoon to transfer dried beans in a cup on one side of the room to a cup on the other side of the room; first team to fill their cup wins).

here at the lovely land of wonderland we have one of those "game" days every month.

Usually we break it down into

1. a craft
2. making Cards
3. making some kind of food item (making donuts and dipping them in chocolate with sprinkles best to date except the school smells like donuts for weeks and you can't even look at one with out getting a little green)
4. games- three legged race, some strange korean game where you throw sticks in a box, jaeae (another korean game involving money, plastic and a hacky sack style play)

Best thing is to keep it simple...or you will go crazy Shocked Shocked

It went great Very Happy Exclamation

about 98% of the students loved the bannock...I think the other 2% were just not sure of it not having tasted anything of that sort before.

The definite highlight of the day was the students playing/working with the dough and then cooking it. They loved doing the hands on thing. Laughing Some intresting reactions Laughing Its sticky Exclamation Ewwww teacher Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Rolling Eyes

The owner said good job you did good work today Shocked

It was a fun but tiring day...making and cooking bannock 16 times in one day wears on you Exclamation

If anyone wants the recipe(super simple) just ask for it....takes about 8 minutes start to finish, mixing, cooking...eating may take longer Smile
