It's called trolling. If there weren't good, solid responses to the question then I'd probably troll the thread myself haha |

Not one of the "yes" voters came on to explain their reasoning-interesting! |

are we sure the op isn't himself trolling? because that'd be a pretty foolish thing to talk about at a job interview.
remember kids, live life with the "only tell people what they need to know" motto in the front of your heads and you'll end up in much better places. |

You don't have to be a dicks, guys, it was a simple question. It's NOT a traditional interview, akin to an interview in the US, so it would seem this was a legitimate question. And yes, if I was interviewing for a job in Chicago--for example, I now live in Kansas--because I was moving there with my girlfriend, I would probably mention to them that I'm moving to Chicago because of my girlfriend. I wouldn't, however, tell them I'm applying for the job because of my girlfriend.
Obviously I wouldn't say to a Korean interviewer "I want to work here because my girlfriend had to move back to Korea." I'm not completely stupid. If you want to respond to a post, don't be an asshole so you can make yourself feel better and more intelligent. It just makes you look like a dick.
Also, I'm not trolling, wishfullthinking. If you're such a genius why are you teaching--now or previously--in Korea? Shouldn't you be a star researcher in some prestigious university instead of going overseas to teach? Don't be so condescending, you *beep*.
Thanks to others who were more polite though! |

it was just a theory champ, and i don't teach in korea. i happen to have a corporate job here that some might consider prestigious since we are market leaders in a handful of fields. as well, my job does require a lot of intelligence, although i never said i was a genius.
ironically enough, you did a great job of being condescending towards your fellow teachers.
keep up the good work! |

Don't patronize me, you <mod edit>. I don't need to be called "champ" like I'm a child. I was never talking down to people who teach in Korea (as I'm trying to do that myself), but you're only fooling yourself if you think genius types are actually moving to another country to teach English for little pay. I'm not the most intelligent person in the world and I know that. You, however, have a distorted view of reality and think you're better than others. "Oh my god, I have a corporate job, I'm so intelligent and better than everyone." Get over yourself, <mod edit>.
How about you stop being a troll and get off my thread? You're worse than Republican trolls on progress webpages. What the hell are you on here for if you aren't and never have been a teacher in Korea? I see who the troll is. |

If a interviewee said "I'm very sick with yellow fever. I am staying in Korea until I'm cured. I have no idea how long it will take to cure, but when it does I will probably move on" The employer might respect an individual who is truthful.

| Don't mention it. Koreans love to get you to agree that Korean women are very beautiful, but it drives them nuts to hear that you're actually dating one. Especially if the interviewer is a guy. |

Just off the top of my head, someone MIGHT say they had a Korean gf and say that is part of the reason they wish to teach in Korea. That COULD be seen as a positive by a Korean employer who could perhaps think that this would reduce the chance of them hiring a newbie who would run at the first sign of cultureshock...but heck that just crazy talk! |

Why?
Unless you have a famous, talented beautiful influential intelligent loving sexy girlfriend like mine. I wouldn't. |

I wish people would shutup with this generalized nonsense.
I interviewed with EPIK (a Korean guy), he asked me why I'm coming back to Korea and why I wanted to teach in Incheon.
I told him I loved my previous 2 years here and my girlfriend lives in Incheon who I would like to be closer to. He said awesome, get your docs in, and it will work out.
And it did. |

Just because your situation was a little different doesn't mean it's the norm and should be encouraged. Why CHANCE it? Especially when it is totally none of the interviewers business and MAY hurt the OP's chances.

Yeah, when your interviewer loves you, you can say all kinds of crap and they'll be like "Yeah, yeah, it's great you like ponies! When can you fly out?"
Otherwise they'll 'take your cv into consideration'. |
