Korea has become too tame and too lame.

The teachers back in the day were more varied, spontaneous and well...ya know just better.

Because of the blandness it has become I am thinking of teaching elsewhere....Vietnam, China, etc.

1. Back in the day, Dave's used to be a lot more risque. But the mods are pretty tough now. Dave's used to read like a cross between KKK literature and Penthouse Letters. Now, it's much more tame.

2. Previously, the standards to teach in Korea were very low. A BA and a heartbeat. Now with the background checks and an employers market, the Koreans can be much more picky about who works here.

You used to get a lot of real odd-balls and misfits here in Korea running from something back home... a lot of rejects from the West ... they're still very much here as they form the bulk of the "lifer" crowd. But their numbers are fewer than before.

It's sad, because it's the Freaks who make Korea a fun place.

The new crop of TEFL'ers are generally more economic refugees than social refugees, so the caliber is a little bit higher than before. But they're generally much less interesting people.
