Thanks for all the critique! I'm making some revisions to the trailer (using some of the commentary here) and will post it when it's ready.

@centralcali: I think I wasn't clear in my explanation: I don't mean to make a little 60 sec movie of the movie. But trailers do tell stories, as well as help build an audience. I don't disagree.

@paddycakes:
Who are the main characters? Ray and Isabel, a couple struggling with common issues many modern, educated, technology-addicted couples face.

Are they ESL teachers or something else? They are ESL teachers, having come to Korea for the same reasons as many of us... jobs when there are few to be had back home, to escape, to get out of the lives they were in.

Does Korea figure prominently in the movie? Or is it just kinda like wall paper?
Korea, more specifically Incheon and Seoul, does figure prominently. To the extent, that even the expat lexicon of norebangs and family marts are included without much explanation.

@Diedbybear:

I wouldn't waste my time watching the movie unless there was something substantial in terms of a message.

We should have more in common than just a preposition! I think you'll find that the film would hit home for a lot of people here... of course, it's not for everyone.

@mowie: the censors? you haven't seen the film yet. Wink

Trailers aren't supposed to tell you what the movie is about; trailers are supposed to tell you what the producer wants you to think that the movie is about so you'll pay to see it.

It looks good. I'll for sure watch it when it comes out. Are you teaching in-country as well? If so, how did you get time to do this? Anyway, I'll be looking for it.

I applaud your artistic effort and decent editing/shooting skills. Heck, even the voice over copy is good.

But, what I don't get is the subject. Is this flick about a person, a man struggling for identity, a couple?

IMHO, writers and film makers should take a look at Lost In Translation for inspiration. Like it or not, it tells a simple story really really well. And that is not easy to do.

Good luck with the post production work.

First off I think it's great that someone is MAKING STUFF instead of wanking it on Dave's ESL Cafe all day. Congratulations!

Music can take an otherwise uninteresting thing and make it interesting. I thought the trailer needed that assistance. There is some meandering sounds in the backbround, but nothing that elevated the visual.

The visual at the start and end was interesting, not sure what it has to do with anything, but interesting.

That's sort of tied to my final thought; the preview doesn't really tell us what it is about, but also doesn't make it interesting enough to make us want to know what it is about.

It's not hopeless, like C+ as far as trailors go. Cool.

@zombiedog: I am a teacher. I'm working full time as well as completing my final seemster of my MA in TESOL. I don't sleep much, I don't have time for tv or weekend drinking, but I'm doing something I love.

@eslwriter: it is about a couple lost in their own vices. For this film I actually use Somewhere as more of a reference because of it's liberties with action.

@KimchiNinja: The opening image is actually getting switched out. We had that shot on three cams, but the highest resolution is the one in the trailer, which actually has a print on the lens (which you can see if you look hard enough). We also shot with 5dmark3's but the resolution on those cams are crap so I tried to avoid using them. The music is fairly sparse. You can get a more rockin vibe from the opening credits: http://vimeo.com/48385361
