Sorry--for others who read the previous strand. I thought I was being placed in Jaebu-do--a vactaion place for many Koreans. I was wrong. It is actually called Jungwang-dong or Siheung-si--two different places.

I am trying to find out as much info. as I can about going to Korea. I have never been out of the country so I am just excited as I am scared!

If anyone knows anything about these two places, please share your knowledge or experience.

Much appreciated,

mslaoshi Laughing

I live near Siheung-Si. Siheung is more like a district than a city. It's near Seoul and consists of a main city plus several scattered small towns. I live in one of the small ones.

It's quiet and clean but inconvenient if you want to go into Seoul. If I had my choice I would definitely want to be somewhere closer to a subway station in order to get to Seoul more easily. From where I live it requires a bus ride plus a 40-odd minute subway ride. About 80 minutes all told to central Seoul. Not exactly convenient.

I lived in Jungwang Dong for my first three years here in Korea. It's not a terribly bad place... Lots of factories and dirty air, though. There's a small community of foreign teachers, so they are usually all pretty close. I miss the gatherings that all the teachers had, compared to what it's like in a place with many foreign teachers. Let me know where you are going to be working.. I might be able to be more specific about the area you will be in if I know that! Laughing
