I want to move away from Seoul. I want to move to a small countryside city that has mountains very close. Any recommendations for places like this where I can also find a teaching job? Thanks.

Gongju is nice. It's "rural" by Korean standards and the greater Gongju administrative region includes Gyeryongsan. You can take a bus to the mountain from Gongju proper.

It's also not very far from Daejeon by bus if you need to get to Costco, the rail line, night life, etc.

Lots of places in Gangwan-do. Much of Jeju is very rural. The south coast has a lot of nice smaller cities close to islands, beaches, and mountains. I'd recommend Geoje-do, Tongyeong, Yeosu, or Namhae. I haven't seen too much of Jeolla-do but the food there is good and much of it is rural.

Go to Wonju and Chiaksan. IMHO Jeolla-do seems to attract worst mannered drivers in Korea.

Chungcheongnamdo or otherwise just called Chungnam might be a good place for you. Kongju which was previously mentioned is in Chungnam as well as Taejon (traditionally considered to be in Chungnam, although actually politically separate from Chungnam).

I did one year in country-side. It was tuff. I hope you like hanging out with drunk 70's olds because those will be the only people around.
The very few younger Koreans that stay in the countryside are ussually pretty strange.

Almost everywhere in Korea is next to mountains. Don't worry too much about that.

Well, I live in Chungnam, and for Chungnam I am in one of the most rural towns. I like living in rural Korea. The foreigners are more close knit, because there are only about 20 - 30 of them in many towns so people do more things together.

I've only known a few people in Chungnam who were stuck in places away from other foreigners, living in those little villages in between towns and cities that most people commute to for their morning classes. All the English teachers usually live relatively close to each other. If you are looking to socialize with locals then you probably will be limited to mostly ajeossis. Take it as you may.

Almost every town will have at least some 2nd/3rd rate college/university. Students from there will very likely be drinking somewhere in the main town if your selected location. On top of that, it seems a large chunk of them are Chinese students, but their Korean is usually really really good. I can't tell the difference, but Koreans can sure id a Chinese speaking Korean by their accent right away.

This is a list of the most sacred mountains in Korea

I would suggest Andong or Yeosu for cities.

I used to live in Chuncheon and while it wasn't for me, I think it's a good place to go if you want a quieter lifestyle while still having access to the comforts that Seoul offers. It's only a 40 minute ride on ITX now, I think. I'd pick Chuncheon over Wonju any day.

I was bored there, but I also love living in Seoul and have no plans of leaving the city.

Check out Gangneung. I haven't been there myself but everyone says it's gorgeous and I know some foreigners living there who love it.

Jangyu-myeon or Jinyeong, technically part of Gimhae city. The big thing with these places is that they are very, very rural but also really fucking cool. They lie between Changwon and Busan, and Jangyu in particularly is booming for hagwons right now.

If you're looking for a pleasant bit of mountains-meets-the-sea without being in the middle of nowhere, try Jinhae. It's badass, close enough to Busan for day-trips.
