I'm thinking about getting into this thing baseball players refer to as "juicing" but was wondering if the price of fruit and vegetables here makes it difficult to keep up. A girl I'm seeing told me not to do it, and that the winter prices for fruit and vegetables go way up. Does anyone here juice or have any advice on the matter? Where are the cheapest places to buy raw fruits and vegetables? |

yeah I am on the juice.
if you can visit your local farmers markets then you are pretty sweet for prices, otherwise you can buy flash frozen fruits from chile which are good value, in winter the prices of fruit is actually cheaper than summer.
especially oranges and apples, bananas are pretty much always the same
it's cheap to juice here. |

If you eat chicken or beef in Korea, you're "juicing." |

Pretty sure there was a thread on that 2 or so years ago in the Off Topic section. |

Thanks, fosterman, that's great to know. Psych to the rest. But you can talk about roids here, I don't mind. |

oh, I suppose that'd be a quick way to get this thread shut down. AFAIK, it's an illegal activity in the ROK. |

Friend had a Philips juicer. He mainly juiced fruits. He recommended that.
My wife uses a Hurom juicer, and juices mainly leafy greens. Works well.
Problem is the voltage is not universal, so if you leave Korea, it can't easily go with you. |

Good point about the voltage. I'm looking to get into veggie juicing a lot and wish I had started this earlier. |

I have a juicer and use it frequently.
I buy veggies and fruit in a street market in my neighborhood and prices are quiet good. A lot cheaper then the normal supermarket anyways.
Of course some products are a lot more expensive when compared to bigger markets.
As long as you buy whatever is in season you will be good. |

Hurom juicers are identical to Omega juicers in the States, fwiw. I love mine (mostly green juice, but also fruit juice for cocktails whut) |

How much would a decent juicer cost? I would like to get one, but I don't want to spend too much. |

Juicing is way overrated and isn't as healthy as we are led to believe it is.
By juicing, you are stripping the fibre and nutrients from the fruit and vegetable in question and drinking mainly simple sugars.
The healthiest part of juicing is that thick sludge that's left after the juicing process. If you can eat that directly or add it to a recipe or salad etc, you'd be getting a lot more nutrients than by simply drinking the juice.
In the end,it's far healthier and cheaper to just eat fruits and vegetables as nature intended them to be eaten;au natural. |
