Not if you are on an E-2 visa. If you are laid off by an employer on an E-2 visa, your visa is revoked in 14 days and you must leave the country. Unemployment insurance is not required for E-2 visa holders. If your boss is taking unemployment insurance out of your check he is either screwing you or mistakenly putting extra money in his pocket. Either way, you should confront him about it. |

 Why do people give what appears to be deliberately misleading information?
If you are laid off by your employer on an E-2 visa you have 14 DAYS TO INFORM IMMIGRATION OF THE CHANGES TO YOUR STATUS.
You DO NOT have to leave Korea. You can change to a tourist visa to stay longer and finish up everything you have to do. You can change to a D-10 visa that enables you six months to find another job - there are previous threads on that visa.
If cincynate doesn't know the law then he/she shouldn't post on these kinds of threads. If they are Korean or Korean ethnicity as sometimes happens here when misinformation is spread, just take a hike off these forums unless you can contribute positively. |

The reason is that often recruiters, employers, other teachers and even
immigration officials give out conflicting information. Often different officals have their own versions of the "laws"; even within the same office.
It depends who you talk to. Don't be too hard on the guy, I'm sure that's
what he was told. |
