Christ, I had to go back to the top of the thread to make sure I wasn't reading about Hankuk University. Man, there are some crap university jobs out there. HUFS was a dreadful experience. Seems I need to add Suwon University to the list too. But I don't believe for a moment that it can match HUFS for abuse, misery or exploitation on any level. Still, it sounds pretty bad. They probably want you to rush into your answer so that you don't have much time to properly check out the place's reputation. You should always ask for the names and contact information of former employees. If they dodge and hesitate that speaks volumes. I failed to do that before I signed up with HUFS. It's a mistake I'll never make again. If you'd got the contact info you wouldn't need to be asking for former employees here on Daves. But as I say, I failed to get that information myself.
Choose your job carefully. |

Low quality conditions in university jobs are a lot more common than people think. I know some people who work in crappy schools with low pay, hogwon style hours, unpaid overtime, no housing, extra unpaid work duties, short vacations, horrible schedules and tyrant supervisors. Many of these teachers really believe that they've got a good thing going on. I literally don't understand them. I guess if you lie to yourself enough times you'll believe anything.
That said, I don't know anything about Suwon University. So I'll leave the comments about them to others. |

Actually, I have an F-2 visa, which means I will have no issues trying to escape any job that isn't worth my time and effort. I'm not asking for people's opinions about a job they've never actually worked at and are just spewing more negativity. Posting comments like 'RUN FOR THE HILLSSSSSS' is not helpful or constructive in any way, shape, or form. I AM asking for anyone who has ACTUALLY worked at the University of Suwon and has some valuable, viable, legitimate information that they're willing to share about the work conditions. The people I met there seemed very enjoyable and pleasant to be around (both korean and foreign), and the head of the department has only been at the school for 1 semester and I'm curious to know if she's cleaning up some of the negative things I've heard about the job. |
The number one thing university selection committees look for besides a Masters Degree is experience teaching at the university level. This job will give you that experience. And soon you will have both your Masters Degree and that experience. Disregard the naysayers and the soothsayers. |
This is good advice!! |
