|
|
We have been given the task of developing new courses, and all was fine with my new course idea until today.. SUDDENLY ... and now they want a new name for it immediately.
The course idea is to teach English related to computers, and learning it while doing hand-on things like building a computer in class, discussing phone apps, etc. The reason for the course was to draw new students into taking English courses, because we apparently do not have enough students taking them. I thought this might be a draw , given that we have many Engineering students.
The course was named "English in Technology" but now my boss is claiming that this title makes it sound too difficult for our university students, and they won't want to take the class.
So I am being told I have to come up with a new name.
Any ideas (cannot use "technology" in the title).
Thanks |

How about "Computer English"? Or maybe "English for Engineering Students"? |

Well, had a sit-down with some pt'ers, and hashed-out what they'll sound like in Korean.
We might have: Applied Computer English or Communication Devices in English.
The 2nd sounds pretty weird, but they think it translates well to Korean (which they claim is what all of the students will be looking at in a title, anyway). |

Isn't it bizarre?
I've been in this position before, also. They change around names of courses and departments because they local profs don't want the students to think that the courses are too difficult, intimidating, boring, etc.
It's ridiculous.
But the original course name was fine. |
