Hello all,
I've been back in Canada completing a B.A. Second Language Education and will be applying to SMOE/GEPIK/EPIK via a few recruiters (Korvia, Korean Horizons, etc.) and I just had a question about the application timelines.
I will have my degree and official transcripts in my hand by early June 2013. Is that too late to apply for the GEPIK Fall 2013 session? I understand that I can get a Letter of Intent to Graduate from the faculty - my question is how late can I wait before sending off my apostled degree, CRC, and transcripts?
When do they start taking applications for September 2013? A Korvia rep told me that they only start taking applications for the March 2013 session in December, so I'm assuming jobs starting in September 2013 would start accepting applications in June, yes?
Sorry if this has been covered before -- I'm looking for the most current information. |

I can't answer for EPIK but GEPIK will start looking in April, recruit in MAY and have everything done and paperwork deadline will probably be early June with NOAs sent out for a mid-August start date.

Hmmm... So early June would really be pushing it for the degree and transcripts, no? 
I heard that EPIK recruits a bit later than GEPIK and SMOE -- anyone know if there's any truth to this? |

When I applied I was under the impression applications through multiple recruiters - to each program - was a bad move.
As to time scales the sooner the better, but there are always exceptions when teachers change their minds. |

See, that's what confuses me. I've been on this website for years now, and I keep hearing both sides -- some people say to use as many recruiters for as many programs (SMOE/GEPIK/EPIK) as possible, while others say to only go with a single recruiter. What gives? |

Nothing confusing. If EPIK or GEPIK receives more than one application from you, you're out. But you can use all the recruiters you want. Just make sure the ones you don't use don't end up submitting your documents.
Personally, I just wouldn't risk it in case of a slip up like that, but to each their own.
Also, just to keep in mind, EPIK, GEPIK, and SMOE are separate programs so submitting an application to each of those programs is fine (or using a different recruiter for each program). |

Try GNET in Gimhae (attached to Busan by subway). They only hire a few teachers a semester at this point, but the terms of the contract are decent and they usually hire a little later, as teachers are reluctant to commit to leaving.
They DO NOT use recruiters, you apply directly to city hall. |

I'm open to Busan. My only concern is that I'm applying from abroad. Does GNET only hire local expats, or can foreigners apply. If I can apply from abroad, could you point me towards their website? I can navigate in Korean if I have to.
So from all the advice I'm getting, I will be using a single single recruiter for all 3 (SMOE/GEPIK/EPIK) and multiple recruiters for hagwon jobs. For public schools, which is better: Korvia or Korean Horizons or Footprints? |
