| I think that maybe its because cowboy hats are regarded as traditonal wear of foreigners, honoring the pioneers of The Last Frontier. Or something, something. This could also be used an excuse to wear it. |

Seems very unfair to me. |
Shave your head and the problem is solved. They'll allow it then, I assure you.
When I shaved my head and showed up to work one morning at Wonderland, my supervisor told me I had to wear a hat every day. |
Really? Are Koreans that freaked out by people who shave their heads?
I mean, when I was living in Germany, I did it because I didn't want people thinking I was a skinhead, but in Korea? Really? |
I actually had it written into a hagwon contract a few years ago.
"Male teachers will not have their hair styled too short or shaved"
I did actually have a shaved head when I arrived and also took to wearing baseball caps everyday. When they asked about it I told them about the contract....they didn't even know it was a clause in there.....which makes me wonder if they'd even read the thing.
In my opinion it depends who you're teaching as to whether wearing caps or hats is acceptable. Kids no problem. Adults it looks a little crappy. |

Shoudn't be wearing a hat indoors in the first place.
Koreans don't seem to be aware of this... |

| Lol, I had to laugh at the title of this thread. You are a teacher. That is a profession. You dress appropriately. I have not been to Korea but I am sure that appearance is a big deal. I do not care if you are on a yearly contract just looking for adventure and doing the bare minimum. Be presentable. |

| It may be an objection to the propeller, not the cap. |

| I was "presentable" according to the standards of my boss - at first anyway until some half-assed doofuses started to wear their hats backwards and sideways. |

Did some circus clown tell you life was fair? Did you listen to said clown?
He's a liar. He lied. |

When it is unfair I will complain about it.
There are people who commit all sorts of crime. So if you are a victim of crime then you shouldn't complain about it because there will always be crime (life is unfair).
Nice logic. |

Car theft is a crime.
The Holocaust is a crime.
Not being allowed to wear your hat is not a crime.
p.s. I'm permitted to wear my hat, and you're not. Unfair does not equal criminal. Sorry. |

| You implied that life is unfair. So does that mean I should just stay quiet and accept that it is unfair? |

I don't believe I ever had a teacher who wore a baseball cap, cowboy hat or any type of hat in class. If the school policy is to not wear hats, I think that's a perfectly good policy. I also see your point, however, that it's unfair if someone can wear a cowboy hat and you can't wear yours. If you can't wear your ball cap, then the dress code should state that no hats (save for religious head coverings perhaps) are to be worn in class.
Having said that, it seems like a rather petty issue to complain about. As the saying goes, choose your battles. Is the right to wear hats in class really worth fighting for? |

I mean I didn't throw a huge fit about it. The school went under a short time after that (not because of the hats!).
Even though the other guy still got to wear his cowboy hat I didn't really mind in the sense that he was one of those dudes that always wore it really far down over his face. I mean it looked really funny when trying to talk to him and being barely able to see his eyes. I didn't tell him or anyone else how ridiculous it looked because every time I came to work it always gave me a good laugh - especially when he would meet new people and they'd give him that strange look that he either ignored or wasn't aware of. |

Was he a black hat or a white hat? And what does brown hat mean - neutral? He sounds real friendly. |
