What would a B.A./B.Ed Second Language Education + CELTA + 1 Year Exp be worth, in your eyes? I'm figuring on 2.3 (urban) - 2.5 (rural), but my metrics could be off. I'm speaking strictly of hagwon jobs.
I was under the impression that experience is more the determining factor in figuring out salary -- at least in South Korea anyway. |
Your figures are in the ballpark. However the state of the market (flooded with applicants for example) may drive those numbers down a bit into the 2.1-2.3 range for example. 1 year of experience is not that significant but it can bump the pay up a bit. |
You may be right but don't forget that having an honest recruiter is also important because dishonest recruiters will help the schools negotiate by sending in multiple applicants, even when the school knows the one it wants, just to keep the salary low. But there are no dishonest recruiters, right? |
Why is the recruiter in this situation being dishonest? I ask because what is the recruiters job, and who are they working for? It certainly isn't on behalf of the applicant/jobseeker, that's for sure. The recruiter sends multiple applicants so that it has the best chance of getting paid, any recruiter who didn't would be doing themselves a disservice. |

| I prefer to negotiate my salary. I've always gotten more than I expected. But I'm not a English teacher either. |

A school tells a recruiter to start processing paperwork for one applicant and, at the same time, asks the recruiter to send some extra applicants specifically to keep that applicant's salary demands in check and you're asking me what is dishonest about that? |

Sure there are some dishonest recruiters. No debate there. Also to note, a recruiter should not be negociating your pay for you. |

I just got a job offer that's asking me for my expected salary. My recruiter is telling me that the school usually gives out a set salary (somewhere between 2.3 to 2.8 million), and she's not sure why they want to negotiate with me. She thinks it's because "they like me," but I'm sure this is just a sugarcoated response. I can speak directly with the director or let my recruiter handle this... Any advice?

My recruiter is telling me that the school usually pays 2.4~2.5 million for someone like me, but that she can negotiate for more. I said alright and put my trust in her... Bad move? The pay is a bit higher than usual first-time hagwon jobs because I have to work an additional 3 hours on Saturdays. |
