Ok , so I got told on Friday that the boss is terminating my contract . In the contract it states I must get a written notice of problems but I never did . Here is what all the things that happened in the school . It really feel like a money thing to be honest as the school is not doing well . Any advice would come in handy .
I don't find this justified at all . A lot of things don't add up . I
will start from the beginning when I came to the school . When I first
arrived at the school , I was never given any introduction , training
or told how I should teach the books for example certain you have to
cover 2 pages ,other you cover a short story. So after a few weeks I
got complaints that I am not covering the books right so I had to ask
the director for thirty minutes to explain what she wanted me to do.
After maybe two weeks of
being there , a lot of students left and we kept on hearing the
school is doing bad. A Korean teacher was fired who was at the school
for a year from what I was told , the other teachers were shocked as I
was told she was a very good teacher, also I was told about a lot of
teachers that were fired also , the other foreign teacher stated it
was a common that she fired people. After that the other foreign
teacher in the school was asked if he would like to have an extra day
off a week. And we kept on hearing that school isn't doing well , even
till now she has been saying that she does not have enough students
and she was saying she is thinking about closing the school as a
"joke".She would also complain to us that getting students in this
area to come to this school is different than in the old area where
she worked in a hagwon as a director.
I've come into work earlier than stated in the
contract to prepare for lessons . Recently there was complaints from a
class that consists of young children , The complaint was about them
not getting homework . There was complaints about both foreign
teacher's classes. When I give the students homework , i made sure
they know what they have to do . And with the younger students i wrote
their homework on their homework sheets . If the child did not do
their homework, I would write it down on the daily report but the
director who I had to give it to at the end of the day would never pay
attention to it . So certain students would get into the habit of not
doing their homework.
After a month and a
half of being here , I got into a horrible accident where I hit my
head very hard and i had to spend a million won on hospital bills. The
first two days after it , I a was mentally unable to function . And
regrettably even though both days I did turn up for work I could not
work . After that , one of the Korean teachers stopped talking to me
and would ignore me . Unfortunately this had an effect on certain
classes as we needed to co-operate on those classes. Also the director
would bring me student's books , and complain to me that certain
exercises were wrong even though I didn't teach the class that covered
those pages.
I was given the only
kindergarten class , it did consist of around 6 children. 4 girls, 2
boys , The girls left when the Korean teacher was fired as she mainly
covered that class. So I was left with the two boy , one was prefect
to teach , the other impossible . The other foreign teachers and
myself would complain that he was impossible as he would always cry ,
try fight with other child or would never want do anything other than
draw . Recently the director came into the class , and complained that
I'm not doing my job , but she could barely control him also.
Also I have had classes were people
would come to the school and say that they wanted to try out a class
so they can decide to join or not . The times this has happened , the
people joined the class . And the director told me that she was told I
taught a good class.
On Friday , I got a text message in the
morning saying that I owed 240,000 because of the two days I had to
take off because of the accident as she didn't take it out of my wage
though I got paid this wage two weeks prior. This was kind of strange
but fair enough I gave the money to her . When she told me that she
was terminating the contract , she told me I was bad teacher but she
said that she would try get me a job in a different school . This
doesn't make sense . It really feel like this is more about money than
anything . I have worked as an English teacher before and didn't get
any complaints .
I would like to know what i should do next ?Should I ask her for a letter of release or talk to immigration? I am also worried that she might try to deduct the flight from the next wage I am due before the contract is terminated.I have there since July
I asked her for reference but she said she wouldnt give it to me. Should I just try to get a D10 as when ive been talking to recruiters they all asked for a reference or a release letter |

Anytime there are accidents or issues come up, you lose your standing with a school. However, it's just the school. Find another school.
Keep asking for a release letter, tell immigration they won't give it and see if you can get the D10. However, they may want to see a notice of termination before allowing you to get the D10. |

PM answered.
She is NOT required to give a reference letter but she IS required by law to give you a certificate of employment:
your name and ID (passport/ARC numbers)
Your start date
Your end date
Your job title/description
School's name/address/contact info
Employer's signature and school's red-stamp.
She is also allowed to charge a small administrative fee (up to 1000 won) for preparation of the document.
