Anyone know a place where I can get a mole checked out that's not a cosmetic place that also happens to remove moles?

On a whim, I stopped by the Catholic university hospital located directly outside of Chungyangni station and had some moles and a wart checked/removed. It was literally steps from the subway exit 6, and no, you don't need to be Catholic. Smile

The window staff didn't speak much English, but the female doctor (pretty lady, btw) did a little and med student intern who removed my moles spoke A LOT of English. I was happy with the service. Some of it was not covered by insurance so much, because it was considered cosmetic. I think I paid 40,000 for all that I had done.

It wasn't the newest-looking place, but it was clean and they were very kind. I didn't see a service window when I walked in, but they had an old guy manning an information station, and he pointed me to an elevator and up a few floors to where such skin work was done. There they had a small window on one end where you checked-in and waited, and at the other end of the same hall, a young college-aged guy (who also spoke enough English to help) at a pay window took payment for services.

I actually don't know if I would ever have a mole removed by a cosmetic place. What if it's a changing mole and you don't know about it?

A cosmetic place sent me to that hospital. They didn't work on that sort of thing, believe it or not.

Go the Hoffer-Mandale Clinic. Ask for Dr. Martin Van Nostrand.

Well, if you go to where I mentioned, it is literally steps just outside of the exit. Within like 10 meters, actually. It's kind of alongside and slightly behind the exit, if memory serves. It's not a big entrance, but it's there.

I had a mole removed from my back about a decade ago at a dermatologist in the USA, just to be on the safe side. They scraped it off and there's still a scar to this day. It doesn't bother me, but I could see how some people, especially females, would prefer to go to a place that places some emphasis on cosmetic appearance.

my big qualm with the cosmetic place I went to is that they didnt check if it was cancerous. They just looked at it and said maybe it is, so we will remove it. Seemed really unprofessional.

LOL, you want them to run a biopsy?

Most derms don't run biopsies unless something is already a cancerous tumor, you check moles by appearance, size, symmetry, changes in the past x months, etc. and you remove some that are at risk of turning into tumors..

Removing it affectively prevented it from becoming cancerous.

When I get checked out in the states they judge it by appearance. If it looks bad they remove it and then test it afterwards. In my experience, medical care in Korea is second rate unless its specifically cosmetic.

I'd contact Internal Affairs.
