Hi guys

I'm gonna be moving around to Seoul December time and I'm gonna need to get my apartment set up fairly quick, including maybe the most important item: a TV.

So apparently there's no amazon in Korea, which would have been my first port of call. Given there isn't one, can any recommend either a site or store that's best to buy from.

Also if anyone could give a rough idea as to how much a 40 inch HDTV would cost, that'd be just swell.

You can use these sites to get an idea of cost by model number. It might be difficult for you to order from either site if you don't have a local to help you. Head to Yongsan if you like to haggle, or just go to Emart, Homeplus, HiMart, etc... if not. You can haggle a bit at HiMart.

If you are going to work on an E2 then the chances are that your "housing" will already have a TV.

Yeah they almost always have a tv, plus the internet is very fast so you can stream several channels at once to your laptop.

Appreciate these answers guys. Um, I'm not entirely sure what my visa type/number is in honesty, it's an ongoing process at the moment and my employer are handling it. However, my employer "help" to find accommodation, they don't provide it themselves. As such, I doubt a TV will be provided.

Also, whilst streaming is great, and fast internet is amazing, I still need a TV for gaming and Blu Ray watching, as I'm really into my movies etc.

My suggestion is to search the want ads, as in craigslist or the buy/sell/trade section of this forum. Plenty of expats are selling their stuff before leaving Korea and you can score deals, esp. if they want to get rid of their stuff pronto.

You could also buy used TVs at certain stores but I'd check the quality beforehand. Or if you want brand new, check out the deals at Emart or other discount outlets.

The big time for other expats leaving and selling their stuff is February and August although you might get a good tv in between those times. You also will have to get it moved, so that's two things you need address. Definitely look at wanted ads now and ask who's selling how you can have it taken to your place.

Also take into account electronics in Korea ain't cheap!
