I did a midnight run from an impossible situation. How do I find out if I am blacklisted? I would like to return to Korea. Under what circumstances would it be impossible for me to return and work in Korea? |

Chances are, you're not blacklisted- that would imply co-operation among hagwon owners and that's as likely as a bunch of pigs flying past my window.
My advice, don't work in the same area that you did last time- unless it was a big city, and even then work in a different dong. That should prevent any gossip from damaging your chances.
Good luck |

Giggle. Yes a black list also implies hagwon owners are capable of advanced planning. Another trait that seems to lack in a society that seems to believe you don't need to plan, as 5,000 years of culture must provide the proper response for any situation. |

You can get a job, but Immigration might have a problem with you.
When did you run? If you are coming back during the period that your E2 would have still been valid then you might have a problem.
When a teacher runs, the director has to go to Immigration to cancel their visa. They have to indicate why the visa is being cancelled prematurely. You will not be able to apply for an E2 until the period of your earlier E2 would have expired.
And I do know of one personal case where the blacklist was longer than that.
I had a good friend who ran from his school in May of last year. His visa would have expired in October 2003. He waited and found a school to sponsor him in December. After taking his documents to immigration, they emailed him back and said that he can't get an E2. Didn't say why or for how long. But he could still come here on a tourist visa.
The only way that you will know 100% is if someone tries to sponsor you and the sponsorship is either approved or rejected. |

Highly unlikely. Good advice from another poster, apply for jobs in a different area. |

I asked my last school director about this, and she said that some of the recruiting agencies do send out a fax to some of the hogwans about blacklisted e-mployees. I asked if my name was on it, and she said that she does not go by that list, since the recruiters that put this out are not to be trusted. I have contacted a few of the "major" recruiters about this and they deny it. But I have talked to a few smaller recruiters and they said that there is an "assocation" of ESL recruiters that share information between each others.
My last school that I worked for said that they hire directly and will not use a recruiter because of past experience. |
