I've been given a warning about the bags, since I'd been using them only half the time. I was told that there's a fine but, more importantly, I don't want a reputation for being the sort of ugly foreigner who doesn't care about the Korean environment.

I think the bags are a great idea. I hope more areas of Canada do likewise.

I use them about 90 % of the time. The remaining one-tenth is when I have a small quantity of smelly garbage to put out before the big bags fill (though I realize I could buy small bags, I haven't yet).

What's regulation?
I just stick the trash in one of the big grocery bags.

Always. In my first apartment, the guards wouldn't let you put anything in the dumpster unless it was in a regulation bag. Now I live in a smaller city, and I'd say 90% of the people in my building don't use the regulation bags. I still do, though.

I live in a villa, with no guards. I can get away with it.

I'd gladly buy those bags if I honestly thought the money was being used for how it is supposed to be used. Prolly lining some politicians povket book, or using it to send TV's to their 'brothers' in the north.

Thanks to all the decent people that use the bags.

Those who don't use the bags should be ashamed of themselves.

Throwing away garbage does not come without cost environmentally, and should not come without cost financially.

I don't know where the money goes. If it's for reforestation wonderful. If it is for waste disposal and management also wonderful.

China and Mongolia should do that to stop Yellow dust with reforestation.

It takes minimal effort to find and then purchase the bags.

Now if we only could do away with those plastic bags that the stores give you(or sell for 20 won). You can't use them for garbage......

I still think that if a store would use the 10 kg or 20 kg official garbage bags for groceries, after a design modification, it would make for a great marketing tool and help the environment even more.

You can take those shopping bags back to the supermarket and get your deposit back instead of throwing them out or you could reuse them when you go shopping.

My supermarket offers the option. They can bag your groceries in an official garbage bag (for a nominal fee) or their own throwaway bag for free. I choose depending on which I need but always use an authorized bag to put out my trash. It just seems respectful.
