The fact that this kind of crap gets posted here is sad beyond words....
Next time you raise your shield in outrage at racism nautilus, just remember what you post on here... |
No, what Nautilus said was generational, and when you think about it, normal. Do you think what Nautilus said is hilarious too? Maybe if he talked about torturing North Korean women and children you would find it amusing. |
That would be just as sad AND just as narrow minded. Why on earth you would say something so sick is beyond me. Who finds torture amusing? You perhaps?
What nautilus said was not just generational, it was derogatory, insulting and yes in many ways racist but it's ok, you choose to see it another way, that is your call. |
You are the one that said this thread was hilarious, check you past posts. I don't find torture amusing at all, and I don't think this topic is hilarious. I'm pretty sure the way PSY used the word "Yankee" was racist. A lot of racism is generational, that doesn't excuse it. I just find it amusing that you call out Nautilus but you have yet to say anything about PSY, even though that is what this thread is about. |

Ok, how's about me calling out nautilus? I think what he said was out of line.
And I've stated NUMEROUS times in this thread that I object to what Psy sang.
Racism and bigotry is ugly, whether it comes from a DeepSea Dave's poster, or a Chubby Horsey Dancer. |

I think it was out of line too, so I agree. Nautilus was out of line. I'm just pointing out the double standard. |

Weren't Romulus and Remus, the founders of ancient Rome, raised in a cave by wolves? Maybe it was a backhanded complement. |

I'm pretty sure people need to learn what racism actually is and stop using it as some sort of generic condemnation. Referring to a group of people in a pejorative fashion is not, in and of itself, racism, most especially when the group in question isn't even a race. |

That's a good point. But I'm still waiting for the people attacking the critics of PSY to give their opinion on his choice of words and whether or not they were justified. Not getting much here....just the same people calling some Dave's posters jealous and telling them they are in no position to criticize PSY.
Edit: Ok I wrote this, then I went back and looked at the lyrics....
딸래미 애미 며느리 애비 코쟁이 모두 죽여
코쟁이? Yeah that is racist. It's a broad term used to refer to foreigners but still racist. I made the mistake of reading the translation. I'm not sure why they decided the use the word Yankee instead of "Big Nose", it might have been an opportunity to teach the general public some Korean racial slurs. Oh, well. Never mind, yeah he was being racist. So what now? |

Well here's my opinion on Psy's words: they were obviously more of an outraged condemnation in the format of, "How would you like it if you were treated the way you are treating others?" than any actual call to violence. Do people seriously think this guy wants anyone killed or tortured? Seriously? This was not some literal call to violence, and mankind in the 21st century, blessed with wide-spread literacy and learning as we are, ought to be able to use language in a non-literal, hyperbolic fashion when doing so would make a point.
When Psy starts a terrorist organization and begins kidnapping and torturing innocent people, I'll be outraged. So long as he's just singing songs, though, Hell, I'm inclined to agree with him: Americans would be outrage to have their family members randomly abducted and killed, so perhaps they ought to be less cavalier about inflicting such a fate on other peoples.
Hell, I like this "stop torturing and killing, yankees!" Psy better than the "horse dance" Psy that everyone else seems so taken with. |

No it's not. It's pejorative, not racist. Racism is:
Quote: |
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others. |
Calling someone big nose isn't racist, it's just mildly nasty. Psy isn't making some bold proclamation of racial superiority when he uses the term big nose, he's just expressing anger with an insulting term. |

In the FOX News report the guy refers to PSY as "some punk from South Korea who advocates he dath of you and your family." Oh how they fall. I think attending the concert for President Obama was the worst thing PSY could have done. It has brought him and his disgusting remarks even greater coverage - which is a good thing, but I think his attendance at the concert was the last nail in his coffin.
South Korea thought it had finally got the international limelite as a reslt of that song, and that there'd be lots of 'fell good' vibes coming Korea's way as a result of Korea's unprecented exposure. Didn't take long for it all to come crashing down. Now the talk is about "this "punk from South Korea who advocates the death of you and your children."
Koreans really are their own worst enemies. |

True, but you can think.
When I read Dave's I realize the human race is at any given time only days away from cannibalism, witch hunts and worshipping grand wizards. All it would take is a large enough event as a trigger... |

Yes it is. A racist Korean would call a foreigner a "big nose" just like a racist foreigner would call a Korean a "slant". Same thing. He was being racist and disgusting. 코쟁이 is a slang word so this isn't going to be proven by a dictionary. The lengths people will go to cover up the racism in South Korea are amazing sometimes. |

But they do. I'm talking about the grunts, snorts, death stares, howls and other wolf-boy type behaviour, particularly when eating.

Apparently PSY does.

Its a simple fact that up until the year 1900 at least the wheel had not been thought of in Korea nor had one even been demonstrated in the country.

Believe it or not, a Korean can insult the size of my nose without simultaneously making a declaration of racial superiority and right to rule, and I could hypothetically even do the same with his eyes. Do you know why? Because my nose actually is bigger than the Korean average, and his eyes actually are slanty. A racist might mock physical features, but mocking physical features is not, in and of itself, racist.

I wasn't disgusted at all. Then again, I'm a reasonable person who isn't constantly looking for something to be offended about.

Whose is covering anything up here? Plenty of South Koreans are racist, but that's clearly not what motivated Psy's song. It wasn't a song about Korean superiority, it was a song condemning atrocity. |
