| Maybe 50 meters past the walking bridge. Go (east) the opposite way you would if you were going to Suwon Station. Can't miss it, all the buses stop there. Right on the main road that they're doing subway construction on. About 5 different buses go to Gangnam from there. 5500 as well. |
You're not giving directions in Mayberry, dude, you could be describing a place miles away. Which "walking bridge?" I'm in Maetan 3 if that helps.
(note: sarcasm, not hostility) |
I figured it out and I haven't lived in Suwon for over two years and didn't even live in Yongtong when i did live there. He means the big walking bridge near the Homeplus. Anyways, the bus is a lot longer than 25 minutes and can be incredibly long if there's any traffic. Minimum 45 minutes to an hour.
Plus, your options are Kangnam and Sadang. If you want to go to Hongdae/Shinchon or Downtown---tack on another half an hour. |

Yongtong-Dong? You might as well be located in Daejeon if you're planning to go into Seoul at all!
The 25 minute bus to Gangnam is a distortion of reality often cited by those who have been brainwashed.
Anyways, in reality, Anyang destroys Suwon. I've lived in both--Suwon has very little to offer.
Anyang is closer to Seoul, cross-sected by two subway lines, has busses to all the important areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi, has better nightlife, better and closer mountains nearby to hike, more trees lining the streets, less pollution, nicer and more active parkspace which is easier to access, friendlier locals, more and cooler shopping, slightly better dining options.
Suwon is one really really big, spread out hick town. |
Ha...spread out hick town! You are so right! After being here a few weeks I realized I should've gone to Anyang or Seoul...OP, I'm betting you'll realize it too. Good Luck! |

The only thing that I know right now...is that you are correct...oh well...it's an experience...and being Australian, I think that I'm kinda used to really big, spread out hick towns. |

I envy you. Mind you, I get along great with Korean men. I love their whole way of thinking and acting. I get on with them way better than I ever did back home. The problem is I don't like Korean women. And there are NO non-Korean women in Suwon (except for the soulless Canadian hedonists at the Villagee), so I end up travelling to Seoul rather often. |
Ok, so I know I'm a little late in responding to this but it just came to my attention.
I am one of the Canadian girls working at "The Villagee" and I would like to know where you, Suwon 23, have come into such telling contact with us that you would have the right to judge us as you did. Publicly yet. I could understand if you knew us and had some reason to insult us like that, but having done a little snooping around on these forums, I think it's pretty safe to assume that I have no idea who you are. Nor do my other Canadian co-workers.
And your "apology" did little to soften the blow. "Maple syrup rocks." Come on now. That's like saying the word "Canadian" was the insulting thing in your first message. I can handle being called hedonistic...but soulless? Where do you get off saying stuff like that about someone you don't even know? |

I had always hoped that Suwon 23 would reply to the above...but he never did
Anyways...after transport advice...going to Gangnam...do I take the bus in Yeongtong from the Homeplus side of the road, or the other side?
Also wondering which bus I catch, and where from, to go to Suwon Station?
Planning a bit of a trip into Seoul tomorrow...didn't have much luck working it out today!
Thanks. |

I think you need to take the 5100 bus from the Homeplus side of the road to get to Gangnam. It'll take about 30-40 mins. Get off at Kyobo Tower Sageori (they'll announce it on the bus). After you get off the expressway, it'll be the 2nd or 3rd stop.
Have fun! |

To sum them both up, Anyang is an upper middle class suburb of seoul filled with salary men and government workers, and Suwon is a factory town. Anyang is home to some of the highest apt costs in Korea mainly in the area surrounding Hagwan Ga. This can be a blessing and a curse. Lots of waelthy spoiled kids, but all of their mothers are willing to pay top dollar for private English lessons. I have lived in Anyang for about 3 years and always had to turn down privates due to lack of time for them all. I found nightlife in downtown Anyang pretty fun for drinking. When I first arrived in Anyang foreigners were still a novelty, not so much now.
I have also lived in Suwon for almost a year. I liked Anyang much better. However, Suwon is not without its charms. The red light district across from the train station is fun to stroll around. That area turns into a swarm of male migrant workers every Friday evening until Monday morning when they go back to work. A bit scary at times. Suwon is cheaper than Anyang and has a couple of pretty big universities which can be a good source of young ladies who speak, or would like to speak, English.
Overall, Anyang wins in my book. Quality of life and quantity of employment opportunities seal the deal. Not to mention proximity to seoul and a more relaxed/safeer atmosphere. ANYANG RULES!!
It was my first stop in Korea so all those good memories of first year in Korea are there for me. That will always color my view of the golden city of Anyang. |

Suwon is great as a city, but living in Oklahoma after Armageddon would be less lonely for a white guy. |
hmmmmmm...just goes to show how jaded some foreigners get living close to the conveniences of Seoul.
Funny.....I live in a small suburb of Suwon...approximately 25 teachers in my little town.
Gumi last year...200-300 teachers.
Daegu's a blast....Busan and beaches.
Anyang nightlife....for all you Anyang regulars of Psycho's.....the original Psycho's is in Gumi....population >500,000.
My personal vote on this debate.....Suwon. |

Pyscho's not so interesting. Plus...everytime I go there I end up owning the pool table all night---gets boring.

Are you nuts?? Suwon is the place where all the 3D workers live. Suwon is a factory and industrial city. There are so many migrant workers in certain areas it doesnt feel like Korea. There are some cool Pakistani places near thetrain station and lots of Chinese too. Anyang is like Leave it to Beaver in Korea. All Korean dream here: 32pyong, 1.5 kids(stop having kids if your first is a boy) and a sonata or rexton in the underground parking. Some places in Suwon kind of feel like the corner of crack and 8-ball. A bit scary at times. |

What are you talking about? Anyang is much closer to Seoul than Suwon. |
