Dear Daegu Compass,
This weekend I visited Daegu with a friend. On the way, I looked through your site for good places to eat and to see if there were any bars that serve microbrews. Your website was not helpful. Let me explain how:
1. This restaurant looks really good: http://www.daegucompass.com/pizzaplace
The closest the reader gets to directions is "just north of Apsan mountain before Apsan intersection", which is not useful for those of us who don't live in Daegu. How about a nearby subway station? Address? Phone number? Website?
3. The Holy Grill, which was where we had dinner, was great! Unfortunately, this article did not help us find it: http://www.daegucompass.com/theholygrillsangin Again, I ask you: Why no specific directions or any contact information whatsoever?
3. Moving away from food, clicking on this link will take you to an article with only a title: http://www.daegucompass.com/article/party Apparently the website is still under construction, so okay.
4. This page, for hotels: http://www.daegucompass.com/hotels has one hotel listing in Daegu. The rest of them are in the Philippines in a language I do not recognize (it's neither English nor Korean).
I'm guessing most of your revenue comes from subscribers and advertisers in the print edition. Perhaps you have not put much effort into your website because it's not a revenue-generator. Still, if you are going to have a website, why not make is more useful?
Thank you. |

Not sure why this was posted here considering the mag has a website.
Although the site itself may not have given the info you were looking for...you are more likely to have your concerns (valid concerns I agree) seen by people who make decisions there by using the "contact us" link on their website.
Otherwise, email directly to one or all of the people listed in the "about us" section. In case you couldnt somehow find it, here are the email addresses.
Ha Miyong - [email protected] - Publisher
Lee Yuri - [email protected] - Managing Editor
Scott McLaughlin - [email protected] - Creative Director |

Of note, the compass is more of a book/paperback guide to the city, rather than a website dedicated to that information. My guess is you would have been far better off picking up one of the free monthly editions rather than looking at the website.
Granted, its not likely you could have known that beforehand, but for future reference |

Good directions are a common problem with many online recommendations. It happens on many websites and some bloggers are also bad about giving directions. Remember, if you want to share a good place to visit with others then make sure you give accurate and easy to follow directions, and make sure anyone can follow those directions.
Good directions include: town, nearest public transportation, which floor, any landmarks, and even a phone number or link to a website if you're bad at giving directions.
Bad directions? Here's an example-
"I found a bar with free beer after 5 pm. It's called the Maison La Poof. "
Well, where is it located?
"Why, It's across the street from the Ramrod."
Well, where's that?
That example may seem extreme but you'd be surprised how many people give similiar directions, especially for locations in Hongdae. |
