My friend says his hogwon is making him work on Election Day even though it is supposed to be a holiday. Another friend said his school is giving him the day off for election day, but he has to make up for it by working on Satrurday.

Students are too young to vote. E-2s are inelligible to vote. It's a national holiday for voters. Since you are not voting, might as well do some work. Public schools are closed because teachers and staff can vote. I can't, but I get a day off. Very Happy

Election Day isn't designated a National Holiday. It is a public observance day and government offices and banks will have the day off. Everyone else can elect to have the day off or work. It is not a mandatory holiday. I did have that day off, but my school changed it saying that we will already have a day of at the end of December for "Winter Vacation." It's a one day winter vacation....seriously? Rolling Eyes

Your school is not good. Everything was closed yesterday. I tried to pay some of my bills at the apartment management office but it was closed. I tried to go to the dentist but he was closed too. At least i got to go hiking yesterday which was nice.

That part sucks, but I do get to take my extra 5 days winter vacation when I want to, unlike most hagwons that force you to take the vacation when they want you to. I feel sorry for the Korean teachers though.
