So, my previous employer screwed me out of vacation and severance and a few other things. In my recent pursuit to get my money through legal means I noticed that they also didn't give me my tax return, although they surely deducted for it. Has anyone else had this happen? Were you able to get the money back? I found the Korean tax website and calculated my estimated return to be about $600... so... not a small amount. |

Are you an employee or a contractor? What is your tax withholding rate?
If you are an employee, your employer does your tax return for you (the year end settlement). If any return is owed, but unpaid, it is treated as an overdue wage and you can complain to the ministry of labor.
If you are a contractor (tax withholding rate around 3.3%), then you file your owe return and the tax office will deposit the return in your bank account.
The tax office should not be involved unless there was some gross negligence about the reporting of your income or he is failing to remit. |

I was paid hourly, as a 'Consignment Worker'. I have all of my pay stubs and even the statement of taxes paid but no one told me how/where to file on my own and every other job I've had here they did it for me. Would I still be able to claim my return? |
