A very precarious situation...

I recently quit my awful hagwon mid-contract, and needless to say, was not granted a letter of release. I thought my current visa would be canceled and I could start fresh, but when I went to immigration with a new boss to get a new E2, I was told that because I had no LOR, I would be unable to get a new E2 visa until my first contract would have ended, which is July 2013. They said that even if I left the country in order to cancel my current visa, there was nothing I could do to apply for a new E2 until that time had passed.

I went back today to try to get a D10. To my utter surprise, this actually worked. No letter requested. I was instructed to come back in 2 weeks to pick up my new ARC.

Is that it?? Have I jumped the LOR hurdle? Or will all this come back to haunt me when I go back to do the D10 > E2 transfer??

Just don't want to celebrate prematurely... Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Why does it matter? How long is the D10 valid for? If past June, you should be fine.

Good question, sorry. I have a new school that wants to hire me starting January 2, and it's my understanding that I can't actually work on a D10, so I'll need to transfer back to an E2 very soon.

I think maybe you were lucky. There was a story in the news a few months ago about a girl who did exactly what you did. I thought that would have tightened up the whole D10 process but apparently not. I recently changed from D10 to E2 and a new medical check was not requested even though I assumed it would be because I was out of Korea for a few months. I got a health check done anyway just in case the local Board of Education wants it. If you have your new ARC then I think all is well as regards changing back to E2. You are beyond the LOR requirement then. It was a swift process in the Busan immigration office for me.

If you have the D10 then you have skipped the LOR hurdle.

Transfer from D10 to E2 required:
ARC
Passport
new contract
application
fees
new employer's business registration (copy)
new employer's guarantee (sponsorship form).

One more question, sorry...

I seem to remember seeing here that I can make the D10 > E2 switch before I receive my updated ARC, correct? As long as I present the piece of paper they gave me? (Title: Certificate of Application for Permit of Stay)

Or would it be better for me to wait until I have my ARC back, particularly so they don't scrutinize my file too carefully?

Still feeling unsure that this is going to work...they seemed pretty adamant the first time that I wouldn't work here for another 7 months.
